Question about Lupron headaches

My co-worker is doing IVF and is taking Lupron right now. This is her second round of IVF (first was cancelled due to no fertilization) and they've upped her dose...I feel so bad for her...she has had terrible headaches all week and she just IM'd me and said she can't even work anymore today. She has to go lay down...the RE nurse said all she can take is Tylenol (doesn't do anything for her). Are there any other remedies she could try that you ladies know of?

Re: Question about Lupron headaches

  • I have been having bad headaches from the lupron.  My acu suggested copious amounts of water so I have been drinking about 150oz of water per day and that has helped.  My IVF nurse said if the headaches get too bad that they would prescribe a pain killer, I am assuming vicodin.  They don't want me in pain.  I didn't feel they were that bad, but she said to call if they get worse.

  • Does she drink a lot of water? Those seem to be helping mine.

  • I think it was suggested to drink LOTS of water.

Lupron is a tough drug.  It works on the brain core - makes your body think it is in menopause.

Tell your friend that the side effects do go away once you stop Lupron.

  • Not sure...I'll mention it to her though, couldn't hurt to try! Good to hear about the Vicodin too...she said the nurse told her if they get too bad to call back and she'd talk to the Dr. I think my friend thinks if she does that, he'll tell her to stop the meds or something...(maybe she doesn't realize there are stronger things she can take). Thanks ladies!!

  • if tylenol isn't helping i would suggest either hot or cold compresses until pain dulls.  heat works for me

  • Depending on where she is in her cycle, she can likely take something stronger.  She should press the nrse and the dr. for some relief.  When I pressed, I found I could use advil and my migraine meds, which helped somewhat but not enough.  Cold compressed really helped.
