normally I'd post on the names board, but I really do want your ladies' opinions. I love this name and H hates it.. he's still stuck on Finley. I think Drexel is basically the coolest name ever and we could call him Drex! my H says my hormones are clouding my judgement or something. I know it's not a "normal" name but I don't think it's that bad.
I know most of you ladies have names picked already, or at least have a list narrowed down.. but DH and I are friggin hopeless in this arena. we just keep emailing list names back and forth and we've had, like, 3 separate half hour long skype conversations where we each just name names and the other one says "nope" :sigh: I'm afraid I'm going to be one of those moms who doesn't name her baby until they're a week old ![]()
will somebody name my baby, please? last name sounds lake Paydin. thanksssss.
Re: is the name Drexel really that bad??
I'm sorry but it reminds me of some sort of medication, like Paxil or something.
Maybe try to both make a list of names and you can switch and pick out your top picks from eachothers list? Naming a child is a huge deal and I know for us so many names were 'ruined' because of people we went to school with, so it was hard to find names we both liked. But don't stress, your baby will have a name
I really like Drexel and Drex for short is really cute. Finley is cute too but I'm with you on this one. I'm all about different names. I haven't posted anything on the name board because I didn't want to get blasted. We are naming our baby girl Bristol. Very different and happens to be Sarah Palin's daughter which has NOTHING to do with us picking that name. I'm sick of hearing from people "oh like Bristol Palin" I calmly say well no it's not after her but it is her name I guess.
If YOU love the name it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I hope you and DH can decide soon. My vote is for Drexel!
omg my hormones ARE clouding my judgment because now I think Paxil would be a cool name, too. I dunno I just really can't find any names I love that aren't super weird to most people. also, I have a very unique name and I've always loved it and in a way I want my kids to have different names, too.
we've tried this! I should mention there are a lot of names that I like, but then all end in "n" and I think with our last name it just sounds strange. both H and I like Rowan, for example, but with our last name I think it just flows terribly.
and the main reason I don't like Finley isn't even because of how popular it is but because right now it's more popular for girls and I don't wanna give him a name where he's likely to meet more girls with his name than other boys. :sigh:
I'm not really into it.
Sorry! I have strongly negative name associations with words that sound similar to Drexel, so it ruins it for me.
DH and I are having a bit of name grief lately, too. We are afraid that Jackson is just tooooo popular, even though it's the only name that fits for us.
I don't think it's AWFUL, but it's really NMS at all. I like names that are a little different from the norm, but I just don't like Drexel. But it's not what I like that matters, haha. Finley is cute.
I think you guys need to go back to the drawing board. I wouldn't want to name LO something that I love, but my DH hates, ya know? It should be a name that you both really like. Have you tried the Bump's baby namer tool?
So....it's not that it's not my style or something but I'm not totally sure that it would fit your kid, I think he might be presumed to be something he isn't if people just saw his name (yup, shamefully, wrongfully stereotyped) like on a resume or something.
Type in his name in Nymbler to see what names are in the same family as Drexel.
I'm gonna go sit and think of some bad-a$$ sounding names for you now.
This is totally us...minus the skype. I'm trying to get DH to put together a serious list of names he likes, but so far I've not seen one. I'm afraid I won't have a name for baby, and when she gets here I'll look at her and think, shoot, wish I had a name because she looks like, well, a baby.
I'd say no to Finley because there is a restaurant in my hometown named that, and it would just seem too weird to me. If you really like Drexel maybe it could be his mn if you can't get DH on board for the first name. I can't say I've heard of anyone with this name before, so it would definitely be a unique choice!
So....What about:
Maxwell - Max
Felix
Beck
Xander
Van
Lander
Xavier
Ryker
we have friends with LO's named Maxwell and Xavier. why are all of the good names taken?! gah!
I LOVE Beck, but H doesn't like it.

Ryker is pretty cool, I wonder if I could sell that one to H. I need to find a way to make him this it's his idea.
omg, that's so weird ! i was going to suggest Rowen to you because it was my favorite boy name, but unfortunately I could not DH on board.
i'm sorry, not a fan of Drexel.. just NMS, and now that it's been mentioned, it does sound like a medication.
DH and I were actually considering Finley ourselves, but DH really liked Finn better. i just couldn't get on board with Finn, so we compromised -- and our name is Griffin. He can call him Finn if he wants, as it does work as a nickname to Finn, and i can call him Griff or G or whatever..
Edited to add: i just realized that Griffin ends with an "n" too so that won't work. damn. we like Felix too.. though our last name is Katz so we had to forgo that one.. its a cute/different name though.
hey we both liked Griffin, too!! it's actually MIL's maiden name, which is kinda cool. but I just can't stand the way it sounds with "Paydin" ..too many "en" endings just hurt my tongue to say haha. but it's a cool name! we would probably use Finn as a nickname if we go with Finley. I don't hate Finley I just don't love it.
Since you like Drex so much, what about Dex? Like Dexter?
As for getting your husband to agree to it...just tell him you thought of it while watching the Hulk, that should sway him that way somewhat.
How are you feeling, btw?
My husband is 1 of 4 "B" names - his father's name also starts with a "B," as does my name. So we *refuse* to use a "B" name with our kids, but my two favorite boy names start with "B."
Beckett (this post is quoted because Beck made me want to share)
Bruce
Dx MTHFR (C677T & A1298C, Compound Heterozygous)
I have to say that is sounds bad to me. What about Noah, Collin, Ethan or Evan. They are all decent names. I would avoid Drexel if it were me.
awesome!! some day people are gonna say this about my son
ooh I do like Beckett! Beck would be a cute nn. I'm gonna mention this one to H, too. thanks! oh and btw my husband is one of 7 J names and there are several J names I like a lot but I just don't even want to go down that road and get the "ooh you're doing J's too?!" comment 1000 times. ugh!
I have a friend name Finley and he is hilarious! Probably one of the neatest people I know. It's true - I did consider Finley as one of our options for either a girl or boy but in our area, it is way more commonly used as a male's name. Like you, I LOVE names that end in "n" (Nolan, for example) but I've got to agree with a previous person about Drexel sounding a bit like a medication. Now, Drex is cool...could you just name him that? Or, if you like the whole "x" factor, how about Maxwell and Max for short? It's still different than the norm and is similar to Drexel...maybe your H will like it?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. you know what's hilarious when I was trying to sell him on Wesley (which we both like but I think forcing him to like it made me not like it as much. UGH!) I was like "it's the guy from the Princess Bride! and he was like "oh yeah! okay I do like it" I'm gonna remember the Hulk thing
I like Dex AND Dax but H hates both
wahhh why does my H have to have such terrible taste in names

I'm feeling okay.. still coughing a lot but not nearly as bad as last night!! I got myself some honey for tea and some werther's candy to suck on
muuch better than cough drops!!
I don't think it's a terrible name by any means- but it makes me think about Drexel University- which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I really like the name Finley.... I'm sorry I'm not helping your case :-(
I couldn't picture someone older than about 25 being named Drexel or going by the nickname "Drex"... if that counts for something.
Idk, honestly, as long as names are super youneek or spelled wrong or made up- I have a hard time critiquing them....
The name Drexel reminds me of the movie True Romance, with Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette. It's one of my favorite movies!
I think the name is unique though, and any cool kid can pull off a unique name with confidence.
Good luck

I think of Drexel University.
Problem is I don't love Finley either.
I like Beckett as well... I'll throw some out there:
