Grand Rapids?

Hello There,

My DH is in talks of a new position with his company that would take us to Grand Rapids. I know nothing about Michigan except Detroit is there and Lake Michigan. HAHA Just wondering what the GRs area is like, where good places to live are around there, what schools are like, weather(winter!) crime, activities, etc. This would be a lot easier if it were just he and I, but now that we have DD and another on the way, it's a lot to think about! Thanks in advance for any info!

I think there is a Grand Rapids board on the bump or nest.. i only go there for work so i don't know much about it but downtown is fun in the summer lots of bars and restauarants and in the winter there is an icerink.  Winter is colder than Detroit area, there is a ice rink downtown which is pretty cool.

GR is generally considered conservative culture, great hospitals.

I like that it's only 45 min drive from Grand Haven which is awesome in the summer with the beach.

I have family that lives in Grand Haven and like pp, it is great in the summer!  We vacationed there this past labor day and it was wonderful.

My mom went to an art festival in Grand Rapids and she came home and said she wanted to move there, because it is the perfect city and perfect place.  My dad has been applying for jobs in the area so they can move!
