Postpartum Depression

Question for zoloft users

I have just been put on Zoloft for anxiety issues.  I posted this on the breastfeeding board but have not received any response so I thought that I would try here.  I am currently breastfeeding my 3 month old son.  I have been told by my OB, and my LO's pedi that I am fine to take Zoloft while nursing.  What I didn't ask, and am now wondering if there is a preferred time of day that I take it?

Thanks

Re: Question for zoloft users

  • I just started taking a low dose of Zoloft today.  Both my MW and my pharmacist said that it didn't matter what time of day I took it as long as I was consistent about taking it at the same time every day.  Also, they all confirmed that it was fine to take while pg and afterwards, even if I was BF.

  • I take it at night.  It makes me sleepy and I get a little bit of an upset stomach from it.  So taking it at night helps.
  • I tried taking it at bedtime and it gave me a crappy night's sleep. For now, I've switched to mid-morning since the full-effect of it is supposed to kick in a few hours later (6ish, I think).

It really seems to be working better for me now! I'm 17 weeks pregnant and have been taking it for about a month. I feel much better already.

  • You are perfectly fine taking it while BFing.  I took mine while BFing, and I took it in the morning.
