Sick.....

Well it appears my immune system has gotten the best of me. Yesterday I left work with the start of a soar throat, headache, and postnasal drip.

Today I am just tired, with a stuffy nose, a slight fever, swollen neck glands & lack of interest in food.

Called the OB, and they just told me to keep up what I was doing which is benedryl  at night and sedafed during the day. I am also trying to load up on Vitamin C, stay hydrated, and eat protein. I am also trying to monitor baby movement, which has been a bit sluggish today, but there, so that is good.(I have an OB appointment tomorrow anyhow. Hopefully this runs its course quickly and I back to me soon!

On a positive note, I have been registry stalking and am thinking that the shower must be coming soon! Items keep getting bought! So its either sooner then I thoughts, or my guests are not waiting till the last minute!

Re: Sick.....

  • I'm sorry you don't feel too well! I hope that changes soon. I just wanted to point out that you shouldn't try to load up *too* much on vitamin C during pregnancy. It can lead to preterm labor. Here's what a quick google search returned (from babycenter):

    Melinda Johnson, dietitian

Yes, although it's prudent not to take mega-doses of vitamin C when you're pregnant. Some studies show that taking too much vitamin C in the form of supplements during pregnancy may increase the risk of preterm birth, and there are rare reports of babies born with scurvy (a severe vitamin C deficiency) to expectant moms who took vitamin C supplements. Excessive vitamin C can also upset your stomach.

Your best bet is to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, and make sure you're eating at least one food rich in vitamin C every day, such as orange juice, kiwi, red pepper, or strawberries. If you're taking a prenatal vitamin, you're probably getting plenty of vitamin C, so there's no need to take another supplement.

    Nancy Hudson, registered dietitian

You should consume a normal amount of vitamin C when you're pregnant. The recommended daily amount is 85 mg for pregnant women age 19 and older. The maximum is 2,000 mg per day.

If you're taking prenatal vitamins, you'll be getting vitamin C in that supplement. You'll also get some from the food you eat. If you decide to take more, remember to keep the total under 2,000 mg.
