Cloth Diapering

Poll for BG users: How do you dry

I know I've heard that they recommend you line dry the PUL shells, but I have heard some people say that they just throw theirs in the dryer. We don't have a good place to hang or lay out the shells, so we've been putting them in the dryer with the inserts. The material doesn't seem any worse for the wear so far, but I would like to use them through potty training, so I don't want to totally screw up the diaper in the long term.

  • I clip them to hangers and hang them to dry inside overnight.  They're dry by morning.  About every other week I might dry them in the dryer.

This, only we use a wooden drying rack. You can get one for like $20.

  • If you don't have a good place, just put the covers over a clothes hanger and stick it someplace for a couple of hours. It only takes an hour or so to dry, for me.

  • I typically hang the shells to dry.  If I do need to throw them in the dryer for some reason, I dry them on low heat.

  • I hang them to dry. I'm high class, they end up hanging over my chairs in my dining room since I don't have a good place to hang them (and we're in an apartment without a balcony.) They really only take a couple of hours to dry.

  • We traveled with my husbands job and never had an outdoorline. I just layed them over chairs all over the place. Its frustrating, but stick with it. I potty trained my youngest at 1.5 years with BG"S I wouldnt machine dry them if you want them to last more than 2 years.

    This.

Most days I put them over hangers and hang them from our shower curtain rod. They dry fast.

I've also hung them on the shower curtain pole in my MIL's bathroom when we were visiting.

  • I have two sets of diapers...my first original set were given to us by a friend who used them from birth to pt with her now 2-1/2 yo.  She told me she always dried them in the dryer.  AND THEY ARE RUINED!!!!  They leak through the cover.  And the only reason I can think of is that the PUL was ruined with too much heat.

When I put my inserts into the dryer I turn the dryer to low heat and dry for like 20 minutes, then I pull out my newer diapers and lay them on the dryer.  I work so I don't have a lot of time to do diapers and this seems to speed up the process a little.  I then turn the heat up on the dryer and set for another 50-60 minutes.  That way I can put diapers to wash when I get home from work and have them finished by the time I go to bed.

  • I line dry mine most of the time. I have wire shelving in my laundry room and I just clip them to that. About once a month I throw them in the dryer. I also have to comb out the velcro about once a week since I do not machine dry them.
  • i got a cheap drying rack and stick them outside if it's sunny, in the dining room if it's raining.
  • If I'm in a pinch for time, I throw them in the dryer on the medium heat setting, but most of the time I put them on a wooden drying rack. Sometimes I move the rack outside, but most of the time I just let them dry inside overnight.

  • I love the pic posted above! What a great idea!

I hang the covers over the shower curtain rod in the bathroom, and on the towel rack bar.  Open the bathroom window.  They don't take long.

  • 90% of the time I throw them over hangers and dry them in the laundry room.  I throw them in the dryer every once in awhile if I forgot to take them out of the washer the night before and I need them.

  • Like everyone else said, the BGs line dry pretty quick. But I also have AIO organics, and those take a long time to dry. I'll let the m dry over night, and the next morning I'll toss them in the drier for 15 min on medium heat, just to finish them off.

  • the more often they are in the dryer the more wear and tear on them. If you have to do this make sure its on a low setting
  • I just put them on my dinning room table to dry.

  • Thanks for the tips girls! I will try to find some place to let them dry inside. We're doing CDing mainly for financial reasons, so I definitely don't want to have to re-buy all those BGs!
