Postpartum Depression

Starting low dose Zoloft during pregnancy - prevent ppd?

I am going to start taking a low dose of zoloft for depression that I've developed during this pregnancy.  I've never experienced this before and didn't have this at all with my last pregnancy.  What I'm wondering was if any of you took zoloft during your pregnancy, did that help to prevent ppd once the baby came?

Also, and I know this is irrelevant but I'm still curious, did it cause you to gain weight?  TIA!

Re: Starting low dose Zoloft during pregnancy - prevent ppd?

  • I started to take a low dose of Zoloft at about 15 weeks. I was on prozac before getting pregnant. When we started TTC I went off meds. My Zoloft was upped once I had M due to PPD. I am still on the high end of the dosage and have had to add another medication for anxiety. Every single person is different. I hope it helps you! I have no clue if I gained weight because of Zoloft I was pregnant and was gaining already. PM if you have any questions :)

  • I'm currently taking zoloft for the ppd i developed with my son and I know my current dosage will be reduced once i hit 20 weeks (currently pg with #2), however my dr has mention he has started a light dosage before delivery and it has worked well. I haven't gained an weight due to the zoloft and in fact it did the reverse for me...
  • Thanks for you responses ladies, I really appreciate it.

  • Hi there. I'm 17 weeks and on 50mg a day. I went into my PCP about an unrelated matter and ended up being weepy and through our discussion we both agreed that I was probably depressed.

Anyway, it's helping me a lot after about a month. I'm due in March and will just stay on it if that's what they recommend. Good luck!

Edited to add: No weight gain so far to speak of. Just a normal 3 lb pregnancy gain so far!
