I don't get the "DH wants him to look like him."  How often does DH think about Grandpa's d!ck?

Anyone that says that it 1. doesn't hurt or 2. the baby won't remember.... sorry, but that is lame. Go watch your child be tied down and listen to him scream. It is brutal, and many times the procedure is done without administering any anesthetic.

Personally, the only reason for having it done that I accept is for religious reasons. The medical reasons have all been disproven. So your son can look like dad? Another bad reason, but just my opinion.

If you are in Holland where they don't do it, then I wouldn't do it. I think US is the only country in the world that standardizes it for medical reasons. I know there are benefits to it, but if no one in the world does it( Unless they are Jews) and turns out to be ok? I don't know. I think you should ask the international boards about this, majority of people here are from US and you will get a lot of "get it done" responses.

From the reading and research that I have done, I have come to my own conclusion that i) 40-60% of boys DON'T have it done so he won't be the odd one out in the locker room ii) the decreased risk of penile cancer, STDs and other infections is negligible iii) it DOES cause pain to babies iv) there is a risk of infection, hemorrhage or other complications due to the procedure v) we will have to pay for it out of pocket vi) Daddy can explain to LO why he is different, it's not that difficult and may be an important learning tool vii) not having it done does not lead to masturbation viii) it is not that hard to teach a boy to clean himself ix) it doesn't look weird or work any differently (DH and his buddies will say that it looks like an anteater, but seriously, grow up) and there are probably more reasons I don't think it's a good idea but can't think of off the top of my head. I don't see any benefit, except that he will look like Daddy.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts on it.

Love this. We are having a boy and he will not be circumcised. My husband is from Hungary and is not. I don't see the point or the benefit. I'm sure we've all seen guys who's are bent funny or look like the skin is going to rip it is so tight when it's hard. I know I don't have one, but that does not look comfortable. And like Ray Ray also said, it can  always be done later if he decides, but it can't be undone.

 Okay the whole thing about penis looking funny when it is not cut, in my opinion all penises look funny!

The US has the highest rate of circumcision for non-religious reasons of any Western nation. And it is dropping. The national rate is now around 33%, so it is no longer the 'norm'. It is also not unclean, and for those who said it looks funny? It looks just like a circ'ed penis when it is erect.

I don't care what people do, but to say stuff like 'I am sure everyone who doesn't have it done wishes they did!' is ridiculous. I can guarantee you that in every other country in the world there aren't masses of men going around depressed because they are uncut.

I've seen all sorts of penises and would not say that any of them looked weird.
