Cincinnati Babies

Sometimes, I have no clue!

I feel like the worst mommy right now....

DS is in daycare and has had a cold for about 2 weeks.  I really haven't thought anything of it.  No fever, just a runny nose/cough and sneezing.  I figured it was normal.

Then since Friday he hasn't been sleeping well at night and just wants to be held.  Again, didn't think anything of it.  I figured it was a phase, I was more worried about working through it.

Yesterday, daycare called b/c he had started to throw up and had thrown up 3x.

Today I called the pedi to see if he could still get his flu shot on Thursday and they said they should see him.  Said that the throwing up could be from an ear infection or something and that with it all combined he should come in.  Had he not had his flu shot on Thursday I never would of called them!!!  Oh man, I never know when to call the dr....Tongue Tied

  • Try not to beat yourself up.  It's so hard to know what is "worthy" of a phone call to the doctor and what is just something you have to ride out (like a cold, virus, etc.).    Ear infections are especially hard to spot for some reason.  I hope your little guy feels better soon.

Ditto.  In fact we are pretty sure that the reason Eli was so congested and snotty from 3 to 6 months was ear infections and we didn't know about it.  He had ear infections from 6 months to 1 year almost constantly, but RARELY had any symptoms to clue us in.

  • don't sweat it!  It's not like he can tell you what's wrong. Ear infections are hard to catch, and I don't think a lot of the time there is a lot of difference between ear infection and cold symptoms until you get the symptom that breaks the camel's back, like vomiting or green goop out of every orifice.

I've felt like an idiot when I swore DD was sick (she had a runny nose, goo coming out of her eyes, slight fever, cranky, not eating), just to take her into the doctor for them to tell me she was teething.

    Hope he feels better soon.
