I think it's personal preference. Some people put it on their registry hoping someone will purchase it and some people put it on their registry so that they can at least purchase it with the completion discount. Then some people just aren't comfortable putting it on their registry.

This. I was a little nervous/uncomfortable about putting it on my registry, but in the end I did.
Go for it. Mostly women are going to be looking at your registry anyways and if they feel uncomfortable about seeing a breast pump on a baby registry I can only imagine how they feel about BF'ing in public.
It's not at all inappropriate - a wii on a registry is inappropriate. A ball gag is in appropriate. A breast pump? Totally fine.
My personal preference is that I will not be putting anything nipple-related on there (no pump, no bf accessories) but it's really a personal preference and I don't think there's a wrong answer.

I've been encouraged by more than one person IRL to put it on mine. I've opted not to just because I've been told I can get a Medela 30% off through our hospital and there are plenty of other registry items I'd prefer people to help us get given that fact. Consensus in my various circles is that it's completely appropriate.
I don't think it is inappropriate at all. I know people that feel both ways though. I'm not going to put nipple creams and breast pads and nursing bras on my registry, but I think a breast pump is a totally acceptable item. I put it on mine, but I plan on buying it for myself with the completion coupon (or a better coupon if/when one comes along) and getting the points for it on my BRU card, too.
I put it on mine for sh!ts'n'giggles. If anyone is uncomfortable with seeing it on my registry (which I doubt because I may not have a shower-) they can scroll down to the bedding or whatever.

As pp's have said, it is personal preference, but not at all inappropriate. I didn't put anything BF-related on, but most likely will after my showers, so I can use the completion discount to purchase the items.

i did. those things are expensive. i knew my uncles would be looking at my registry but hey, whatever. its not like breast pumps are nipple tassels. also i have no shame. so there's that. but i dont think any one is going to mention the breast pump on there if they dont plan to buy it.

"A ball gag is inappropriate" HAHAHAHAAAAAAA!! (wait. it is?)
I didn't put a pump on my registry only because I don't want to associate it with whoever buys it for me. Ex: When baby's in her LL swing, I can think of my aunt who gave it to me. I don't want to think of my aunt when I'm pumping. But that's just me. I will add it after my shower for the completion discount.

We totally had a Wii on our wedding registry - oops! In our defense, we'd been living together for 2 years and already had brand new everything.

I put it on my mine and a friend of mine was like "who really is going to spend that much on a gift for your shower?"
I was like uh...IDK but I will just use the coupon in the end if I need to...

wedding registry - I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't seriously judge it either.
Baby registry? Not appropriate.
