My friend from my church community group had her baby at 39 weeks, and he was only 5 lbs 14 oz, 18 inches. He was born on Sunday, October 3rd. I saw her tonight at the hospital, and she was telling me that she was not sure why he was so small (maybe she is just going to have small babies)--and then meanwhile, I had my LO close to 31 weeks, and he is 4 lbs 9 oz. I just told her that it was good sign that he was sleeping in the same room--because if they had any concerns about her baby, then her baby would be in the NICU or ISCU right now.
He was small and light. It seems so surreal to remember that my baby used to be that small. I offered to give her a preemie outfit that my LO never got to wear--he got the preemie outfit after he got out of the hospital, and he was over 6 lbs at that point--so the outfit was too small. And I pulled out my newborn clothes tonight--they are so small. My baby used to be able to wear those clothes.
And I mentioned RSV--I am not sure if I should have said something--is this just for preemies or other infants as well. But it was just on my mind after the discussion on this board recently.
Anyway, his name is Nehemiah (book from the Old Testament). Here is a picture of Aidan's little buddy.
Re: My friend had her baby at 39 weeks ...
my family has 5-6 lb full term babies. Not sure if it's because we are al pretty petite adults or what. My girls take after their father's side, however. DD #1 was close to 8lbs and DD #2 was 5 lbs 3 oz at 32 weeks (1 lb of this was swelling from Rh disease, so about 4 lbs was "true" weight)
Is he doing ok health wise? And as far as I know, RSV is for all babies but preemies are at a greater risk.
Congrats to your friend!
Congrats to your friend and yay for a play buddy!
My biggest baby was 5lbs 2oz @ 39 weeks and he was the one with the most NICU time, my smallest was 3lbs 15oz @ 38 weeks, and my late term preemie @ 36 weeks who had no NICU time was 4lbs 10 oz.
As far as RSV I would have mentioned it as well. My 5lbs got it at 18 months and was in the hospital for a week with it.
happy for your friend. If her LO is in the room with her, than usually that means all is fine. So happy LO is okay.
RSV can happen to any baby or toddler. My preemie is back in the hospital day three with RSV. I thought I did everything to protect her, from no vistors, tons of hand washing etc! But she still got it. I would tell your friend about it.
