So, being a healthcare professional and a mommy your allergy situation has been on my mind. (esp the prescription formula). I was chatting with a friend/co-worker about it and she just was at a benefit over the weekend for a kid with eosinophilic esophagitis and is in a similar situation as you are. My friend was able to get information on free (prescription) formula for this family and now they are getting their formula free and they delivered a 3 month supply the other day. I know she said all they had to do was get a letter from their MD. Were you aware of this (it is from Abbott)? DO you want me to get you some info?

Yes  This is why I love this board so much.  We all seem to truly care about each other and our personal struggles.  Perhaps I'm just all hormonal and sappy; but you ladies are the best.  Big Smile

  • Wow, you are so thoughtful and sweet.  I am a huge emotional wreck right now and have been trying to stay off the boards as much as possible because it is hard to read some of the food posts here.  I know that sounds stupid, but I would kill to have my kid's problem be that I don't know what to feed her because she is picky! At this point, we can't give her any food.  I found out about even more allergies than I posted on Friday, so I am a huge mess.  It is posts like this though that keep me reeled in!

The doctors have mentioned that disease for Katelyn.  I am so nervous her issues go well beyond food allergies and may be a deeper problem.

I actually just got done talking things out with our insurance company.  They are going to cover her prescription costs 90%, which is such a great burden lifted off my shoulders.  I just have to order the formula through a DME supplier contracted with my insurance company.  I am set to receive my first cans in a couple of days.

I really appreciate you thinking of me.  Know anyone looking for an awesome dog???  Stick out tongue  That is my next task. Katelyn is border deathly allergic.  Scary.

  • Oh Jenna. More allergies? I am so sorry. One of my childhood friends has a son (and maybe her daughter too) with this disease. She brings him down from Dayton to CCHMC regularly. If you want me to put you in touch with her I'd be glad to do so, she is a very kind woman and her kids are in elementary school now so she's got some years under her belt in dealing with things.

I can see how this would sting.  Not to compare (because our issues pale in comparison to what you and K are going through, right now); but I know where you are coming from.  Struggling as much as I did with supply issues (etc.), it's really hard for me to read/tolerate posts related to holistically "judging" women who don't BF until a year and/or posts about folks who have a stash of one jillion ounces of frozen BM that they "just don't know what to do with?!"Indifferent  The rational side of me knows that nobody is posting these opinions or related information to get my goat; but it still stings, from time to time.

I'm checking with all of my friends and family.  I asked my parents to ask around, as well.  My family are huge pet lovers, so we understand how heart wrenching this is for you.

That one got me too a few months ago.  I was pumping a jillion times a day trying to make enough for Katelyn because I couldn't supplement with anything, and then you see others have so much and can't decide what to do with it.  Made me feel like a failure.  Man, I let these boards get to me too much!

Yea, more allergies.  Barley, coconut, banana, sweet potato, cat.  Her dog dander was >100 (you need to be .35 to be considered allergic).  They couldn't even give a number becuse it was so high.  Hence, the dog needs to go NOW.

That would be great to hear her story.  MrsMandaK put me in touch with one of her friends.  Katelyn sounds like she is headed down that same path, so it is great to hear from those with experience.  Thanks so much.

  • Any leads on someone taking the dog?
    image Ready to rumble.
  • I have emailed every kennel and day care she has ever stayed at - all have responded but no leads.

A friend from high school asked about her for her brother.  Haven't heard back.

    Two bumpies are helping me.

The vet was useless in helping.

So, just waiting to hear back on some leads.  My husband and I were seriously thinking about one of us moving to an apartment with Katelyn so the other could stay with June.  We could switch every few days.  lol

  • butting in - What kind of dog is it again, Jenna?  I'll start asking around.  A friend of mine owns a doggy day care center and may have some leads as well.

    Awesome! What day care center?

She is a 4-year old black lab mix.  I have a photo album of her on Facebook and she is my profile pic on Facebook.

  • What kind of dog is it?  Does he/she get along with other (small, yappy) dogs?  Obviously he/she is good with kids correct??  I may have to talk to Quinton about this!  I've seen your pictures on FB and the dog is adorable.

  • I am really happy the insurance picked it up so fast. My friend said that her friend is STILL struggling with the insurance company. If ANYTHING falls through let me know and I will get that info for you ASAP! I will post something on my FB about your puppy. I recently had to get rid of our dog and it wasnt easy but its worth a try.
