Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Any ways to make formula taste better?

Up until recently my son had mainly breast milk (he's almost 7 months), but I'm now pregnant with #2 and my supply has dropped drastically. So, I'm having to supplement with formula which he doesn't really like.  He'll drink an ounce or two and then refuse the rest of the bottle.  Any suggestions on sweetening the formula or any formulas that you've tried that seem to taste better to the baby?  We've tried Similac and Enfamil.  Thanks!

  • I don't know any ways to make it taste better (personally, I think formula tastes horrible). But DS eats Good Start and never balked at that. It was an easy transition from breastmilk to formula.

  • I've read on the boards that Up and Up (Target's brand) is supposed to be sweeter and taste more like BM.  Have you tried like half formula, half BM bottles to get him used to the taste?

  • We transitioned from BM to formula when she was 8 months.  We had no problem with Enfamil Premium Lipil.

What temperature are you serving the formula?  Your baby probably got used to the breast milk being at your body temperature.

  • We had to supplement with Good Start a while back and LO acted like and didn't even taste a difference.

  • The Costco brand is sweeter, too.

  • gerber good start gentle plus.. my daughter takes BM and that seamlessly.
  • My son had nothing but breastmilk for the first 6 months.  when I went to transition to formula he would refuse it and cry.  I had to start mixing BM with the formula.  the first week I only put 1oz of formula with 4 oz of breastmilk and I would up the formula amount each week.  It took about a month until he was on all formula.  We use similac.
