I am almost 35 years old, have a 19 month old, and expecting our twins in a couple of weeks (if not sooner due to ptl). My husband and I are absolutely done having children.
In fact, we are so sure- he is getting snipped this spring whether I get the tubal or not. We are not taking any chances.
My question is to you all- what do you know about this procedure? Does it have anything to do with recovery? (I am having another c section anyhow) How does it impact you pp? Periods the same? Sorry I reallly don't want to google and get a bunch of stuff that will freak me out- and I don't meet with my doc until later this week. I guess I am the first of my friends considering this, so I can't get much input there.
I actually have to fill out paperwork for an exception because it is a Catholic hospital- but some nurses told me that because I already have a child, I was pre eclamptic and I am having multiples- I may qualify.
Any input is appreciated, thanks!
Re: Input on getting a tubal?
I also have a 26 month old son and once we found out we were having twins...we decided we were done :-)
I had a c/s with first son and twins, so I asked my OB and she said a c/s is the ideal time to do a tubal ligation.
I didn't notice any difference with my recovery...it was actually easier than my first c/s. I haven't had a period yet so I am not sure how that will be impacted. OB said I shouldn't notice anything that different...she did say I might have a little more cramping than usual but nothing motrin wouldn't ease.
I chose to get a tubal if I ended up with a c/sec (which I did). There is no diff in recovery. I asked two doctors. I haven't had my pp period yet but have no clue that I've had anything done.
Make sure to complete your paperwork on time. We have a 72 hour waiting period in CA and at 31 weeks when I first landed in L&D for cerv shortening & PTL I hadn't done it and could have not been able to get it done.
That will be the plan hopefully. I had an appt today, and my multiples doc is on the board for exceptions at the hospital, but he doesn't think it will get approved in time. It was pretty funny though because he supports tubals- and was trying to get me to tell him why I met the criteria and I was missing his point. At the end though he pointed out that I was still on Zoloft so maybe we could try the emotional distress angle.
Thanks everyone for your input. I'm really hoping it goes through.
