how long did you swaddle?

my LO will be 3 months on the 16th. How long did you swaddle and was it hard to get LO out of the habit? Nathan wont go to sleep even for naps unless he is swaddled but he is growing out of his swaddle me blanket.

Re: how long did you swaddle?

  • We started weaning at 4 months and she was done with the swaddle at 4.5 months.  DD was pretty easy to wean.  We never swaddled her arms (she didn't like it) so we just loosened the blanket each night and then took it away.

  • we only swaddled for about one month.
  • DS would not go to sleep unless swaddled until probably 5 months at nap or night time. My grandma made me really big swaddling blankets. Only way he falls asleep not swaddled is on his tummy, though. But I've had to swaddle him recently when he was sick because he would get so worked up in the crib it was the only way he would fall back asleep. We never swaddled his arms, basically from the waist down.
  • DS still sleeps swaddled!  He naps perfectly fine foe hours during the day wothout it but will not sleep at night.  We have a sleep "bag" that isnt really tight but keeps his arms and legs close to his body.  The size goes up to 12 months.  It works for us.

  • We swaddled until DD was around 4 months.  By that time, she was fighting her way out and it would wake her up more than actually helping her sleep.  It wasn't hard to get her out of the habit.
  • For about 4 months. We used a gerber waffle blanket and at the end he would wake up completley undone so we just stopped doing it and he was fine and now he sleeps with his hands up by his head lol. I wasn't worried about weaning him off of it I knew he would tell us when he was ready. It's not like I would be sending him off to college with his gerber blanket : )

  • We swaddled until she started to roll over. She rolled over once when swaddled and she couldn't get back over...it freaked me out so we stopped swaddling her then (3 months)

  • We stopped swaddling at 5.5 months. He started fighting the swaddle, so one night we just stopped using it and put him in a sleep sack and he still sttn with no problems at all. I was so nervous because I thought that we would get no sleep, but he actually seemed to sleep better. I like it better because now he can sleep in those cute sleepers and sleep sacks. lol

  • We stopped right at 3 months, and used a sleep sack instead.  And the sleepsack was used for about a month or two, and now, we just use footie pajamas.  It went smooth at every phase.  She didnt fuss at all.

    In my camera bag:

  • We still do the escape proof swaddle every night.  She smiles and coos at us the whole time we swaddle her and then goes straight to sleep.  Bedtime's a dream.  Every time we've tried to wean her she's miserable so we're just going with it until it doesn't work for us anymore.

If she gets overtired and starts to meltdown we'll swaddle her for the occasional nap, but I try to avoid it.

  • we swaddled until 3 months, and then just kinda stopped wrapping LO's arms in because he had no problem falling asleep.

Then he discovered his pacifier, and would chew on it and wake himself up, so we started wrapping his arms again.

  • 6 weeks - he was sleeping through the night and hated being swaddled after about 5 weeks.
  • We stopped swaddling for naps at 4 months and 2 weeks later for night time.  The reasons to stop are when LO can roll over, break loose, or doesn't want it.  For mine, it was breaking loose.  Weaning him went a lot easier then I thought.  I think it really helped that we did it gradually (one arm out, then both, then sleepsack).  And now he still sleeps in sleepsacks for every nap and night (we use the Halo ones, and LOVE them!).
