Cloth Diapering

Night poop

My son stopped pooping in the middle of the night months ago. Before that, we had to change him at least once per night. But now, he is able to go all night without a change. He is now 4 months

But the past two nights, he has pooped in the night sometime. I feel really bad because it is not super fresh. he must be pooping in his sleep. I am not sure how this is happening. I feel bad that he has sat in a poop diaper and I also am irritated to think that I might be going back to night changing, since that wakes him up.

Anyone had any experience with this? Was it temporary?

Re: Night poop

  • I assume he STTNs?

DD STTNs finally, and did this a couple times a few months ago.  I didn't know what to do.  I waited to see if it would keep happening, but then she stopped and I didn't have to figure out what to do.  Hopefully it's just a short phase!

  • Yes, he sleeps from 8-4, nurses and sleeps again until about 6:30. that is when I do the diaper change.

  • Hopefully he will stop!  My son did that for a little while too.  I was surprised he wouldn't wake up and cry?  He didn't get a rash or anything from it but I too felt bad he was sleeping with poop on his bum!  I started to put a little bit of A+D on his bum before bed to act as an extra barrier for a while.  This was before I was CDing.  You'd have to use a liner if you use any ointment.  Hopefully he stops soon though!

  • Thanks! I hope it is a passing phase for us too.

I have been putting a barried of unpatroleum jelly and CA baby cream on anyway at night just to use as a moisture barrier. he doesn't seem to be bothered by it, but he is never fussy about a wet or dirty diaper, never has been. I will keep an eye out for rashes and see if it passes. he is such a good sleeper, I hate to mess with his routine and make him wake up in the middle of the night if it will pass.

  • DD poops at night about 1/2 the time.  I really wish she wouldn't b/c I feel bad that she's sitting in it until she wakes, too, but obviously I can't control it.  She nurses to sleep most nights so I think that's why.
