Vesper! WDYT?

Vesper

It means evening Star

Not a common name for a baby girl. Think it is very unusual but pretty. I don't think I could see myself using but like the name.

WDYT?

I do not think it is pretty at all. It automatically makes me think Vespa or Viper. Neither of which make for good human names. Horrible for a girl.

I said it out loud and immediately after said to myself "Like a Vespa?."  I am not a fan at all.

  • I met a family with a little 6 year old girl named Vesper, this was about 10 years ago. I didn't like it then and still don't. For them I thought they picked it becuase it had something to do with church or the Bible, I could be wrong.

  • I don't like it at all, especially for a girl.

In case you'd like more opinions on the name, here are two other Bump threads about Vesper:

  • Makes me think Bond- girl. Not a fan. Sorry.
  • I would assume the parents were Bond fans. In the books Vesper was the one woman he loved and she double-crossed him for a previous lover then allowed herself to be killed/committed suicide due to the guilt.
  • It sounds like a boys name to me. Not a fan.
  • Acording to behindthename.com the only name similar to this is Vespera. Either way you spell it I think Vespa and I'm definantly not a fan.

  • At summer camp we had "Vespers" which was an evening prayer service/church service so that's what this name makes me think of.

  • Reminds me of vespers...not a BAD association, but not one i'd want for my daughters name.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespers

Maybe as a MN, if you're particularly religious. Vespers are best known as a set and style of prayers used at evening services in certain churches (I know traditional Lutheran churches do; probably Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican/Episcopalian as well???).

  • It immediately reminds me of the Catholic prayers, but I don't suppose that's a bad thing, but probably everyone you meet would assume you are Catholic.  I understand where you're coming from though.  It has a pretty sound and meaning.   What about the name Esther?  It sounds similar and also means star. :-)

  • Like pps I think of a type of prayer so I would assume you are very, very religious.  I had no idea that this was used as a name.  It is not terrible, but I don't know if I would use it since many would think of the prayer rather than 'evening star'

  • One of my best friends from high school is named Hesper, and I believe it also means evening star. I really like her name and it is uncommon. I've never heard of anyone else by that name. :)  In my opinion it is a lot better than Vesper. So there's another option if you like the name Vesper.
