I met a family with a little 6 year old girl named Vesper, this was about 10 years ago. I didn't like it then and still don't. For them I thought they picked it becuase it had something to do with church or the Bible, I could be wrong.

I would assume the parents were Bond fans. In the books Vesper was the one woman he loved and she double-crossed him for a previous lover then allowed herself to be killed/committed suicide due to the guilt.

Maybe as a MN, if you're particularly religious. Vespers are best known as a set and style of prayers used at evening services in certain churches (I know traditional Lutheran churches do; probably Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican/Episcopalian as well???).
It immediately reminds me of the Catholic prayers, but I don't suppose that's a bad thing, but probably everyone you meet would assume you are Catholic. I understand where you're coming from though. It has a pretty sound and meaning. What about the name Esther? It sounds similar and also means star. :-)
I think of James Bond! Not a bad name though, there probably wont be any others in her class at school.
Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
Like pps I think of a type of prayer so I would assume you are very, very religious. I had no idea that this was used as a name. It is not terrible, but I don't know if I would use it since many would think of the prayer rather than 'evening star'
One of my best friends from high school is named Hesper, and I believe it also means evening star. I really like her name and it is uncommon. I've never heard of anyone else by that name. In my opinion it is a lot better than Vesper. So there's another option if you like the name Vesper.
Re: Vesper! WDYT?
I said it out loud and immediately after said to myself "Like a Vespa?." I am not a fan at all.
I don't like it at all, especially for a girl.
In case you'd like more opinions on the name, here are two other Bump threads about Vesper:

At summer camp we had "Vespers" which was an evening prayer service/church service so that's what this name makes me think of.

Yea, I think of a prayer service too.

Me three.
I don't think it's good as a name at all.
