Car Seat Question

So, since the Britax are on sale through Amazon (thanks Blayne!), I'm thinking about ordering one just to have it done & ready.  I'm comparing the Britax Roundabout to the Britax Marathon & Britax Boulevard.  The Roundabout is much cheaper ($159 vs $224 on sale), & it appears that the main difference is that the weight of the Roundabout goes up to 55 lbs, & the Marathon & Boulevard go up to 70.

I'll admit, I have NO idea how long kids are in car seats, or what qualifies them to be ready to transfer to a booster seat.  My googling is not helping much. Am I crazy to think that Reese will not weigh 55 lbs until she is 5 year old & at that point could use a booster?  I guess I just don't know why we would need a car seat to go to 70 lbs.  That seems like a lot.  Am I missing something?

Re: Car Seat Question

  • I thought about that too. What made the decision for me was that the marathon 70 just looked safer. Then when I saw that the boulevard has a steel frame and padding to keep their head in line in case of a side impact accident, I decided to go for that one. It probably does make a difference that we were given the money to purchase it though. We are on our own for one for DHs truck, and I bet we get a cheaper one. She rarely rides in his truck, though.

  • We bought the Roundabout. Very higly rated, fits in the car easier, and by the time DS is 55 pounds, he'll be in a booster seat. He's 3 and a half and 35 pounds so it'll still last him a long time!

  • We have a marathon cs and a roundabout somethingorother.  And she looks more comfortable in the marathon.

This might help you make a better decision though.

ETA - This is specific to CA but put the stages of carseats into 4 steps and makes it easier to understand, IMO.

  • We have the Britax Boulevard (got a good price on diapers.com by going with a closeout pattern!)

Also, just recently got the First Years True Fit C650 in Urban Life.  We had an issue installing it rear facing, but maybe we just don't know what we're doing.  So we're using it forward facing in my car.  I like it better than the Britax.  It has a snapoff cover for washing and a cupholder on the side.  Also, the straps don't have to be rethreaded to move them up or down.
