Hi ladies,
I've been on Lovenox since week 12 for FVL and previous clot. I also just received the *wonderful* news that I also have GD. Since I'm one of those not-so-patient people, right after the last lab test I ran out and used a glucometer to tell me what my bs was and to give me an idea if I was going to pass or fail the GD test. Well, that darn little finger prick took about 5 days to heal and was a pain in the tiit! It was really painful typing for the next two days or so. I can't imagine what it is going to be like once I'm doing this several times a day.
Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have any suggestions for finger pricks or other places where I can prick for bs results? I don't have my class until Wednesday so all the info I've gathered so far has been from here and other online sources.
TIA!
Re: GD and Lovenox; double whammies anyone?
Hey there! Thanks again for the suggestion to look over on this board!
I heard from a friend today that pricking the side of your finger is supposed to be less painful. I have no idea since I haven't even scheduled my class yet, let alone started doing this, but she said the side is less sensitive or something.... Not really sure, but maybe worth a shot?
What monitor are you using? Most will let you choose how deep you want to go. (I use a freestyle freedom lite and I keep mine at 2. 3 or 4 is to deep and HURTS like a biotch)
Also, don't use the same spot on the same finger every time. I switch between my two thumbs, and I agree, the side doesn't hurt as bad as the center of the thumb. It hurts for while until you get use to it. GL.
Thanks ladies for the suggestions. DH is a paramedic, so I just used whatever was on the ambulance that day. I'm not sure of the name, but it is the kind where there is a notch cut out for your finger curve on the test strips. The lancet was manual, so there were no settings on it. I'll see about ordering one that has the different settings you were talking about.
thanks again and have a great weekend!
