welt-like hive like red marks

LO started with these on wednesday.... started on his legs...thought they might be mosquito bites....then they were on his arms...he's not itching or uncomfortable...there were some more tonight. in total there are about 10 marks. tonight I marked them with a pen to measure them. There have been no food changes except his transfer to milk since Sept 21. Anyone have any ideas? We put a call to the ped and I am waiting for a return call.

thanks

Re: welt-like hive like red marks

  • My DS just got over Roseola. But Roseola starts with a high fever for a day or 2, swollen lymph nodes and then a rash that doesn't bother them. But your LO has welts you say? Maybe an allergy?

  • Could it be a contact rash, like new detergent or clothes?
  • I'm a pediatric dermatology PA....are they itchy? Do they have little dots in the center? If so...most likely insect bites. Hives and mosquito bites are itchy, so if it's not itchy and he doesn't have a fever, i really wouldn't worry about it. Kids' skin is SUPER sensitive b/c they are constantly coming into contact with new things all the time. Try 1% hydrocortisone cream 2x day for a few days.
