Breast to sippy cup help

Any recs for sippy cups?   We have been trying for months with water but he basically uses it as a chew toy.  Now I have to start to supplement after I BF him because his weight is going down and I really don't want to use bottles at this point.  TIA.

  • Try a straw. DD didn't "get" sippy cups for a long time, but she understood straws immediately since it's still just sucking.

The first (and still really only) sippy that DD likes is the soft spout one from Foogo (Thermos brand). I try out all her sippy lids, and it really is the easiest to use. Plus, I love their interchangable system. The stainless steel vacuum thermos works great! We loved it for keeping cool water during the summer. We have one of the little clear cups for milk, which she can handle on her own better.

  • Try mixing a little apple juice in with the water, that's how I got DS to start using sippy cups and he's as stubborn as they come since he wouldn't take a bottle!

  • We took the valve out of the sippy until DS got used to it.  It was very messy, but once he was comfortable with it (that took a few months because we started at 6 months) we put the valve back in and he had no problem.  We use Playtex soft spout at home, but he drinks out of other sippies at DC.

Have you tried a regular cup?

DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • . We started with a regular cup, then went to an Avent sippy with the valve removed, them tried a bunch of losers and now the Nuby no spill seem to be the favorite.
