For those of you who have made your own, how have you attached it to the ceiling? How far down did you hang it?

We didn't make our own, but we bought a "traditional" hanging mobile rather than one that clips on to the crib.

We screwed one of these into the ceiling:

It's called an "eyelet screw" or sometimes a "screw eye." You can get 'em for about 30 cents at the hardware store. We hung it with heavy duty thread that came with the mobile. Fishing line works too.

We hung ours over our crib, so we wanted it high enough so that we wouldn't bump our heads when we leaned into the crib. We just eyeballed it.

We used a similar hook- just bought it at Walmart.  I strung ours together with 1/2" ribbon (the paper birds are hung on fishing line).  Honestly, you will really just have to eyeball it to see how low it should hang based on your ceiling height/mobile.  Have DH hold it up for you to decide.  Here's the final picture of mine:

I used the same hook as the first poster, and just hot glued 2 ribbons...seems to work just fine!
