Gah.  I love that cat.   He got hit by a car.   Everyone in my neighborhood knew him and loved him.  We all joked that he was our neighborhood mascot.

 

Now, how to tell Lucas that he died?

A couple years ago when our cat died we told DD that he went to find his family because we did not want to get into the whole death thing. This past winter when my parents dog died we told her God decided he needed to come to heaven to keep people company.

When our dog died, we went with the "he went to heaven" route. DS knew that he was really sick, so it was expected.
