Cloth Diapering

Wipes question

I bought a pack of 24 washcloths for $5 thinking I could use them as wipes before really deciding to CD. I figured I could use them for other things if we decided not to CD. The wipes posts below got me thinking about what the washcloths are made of. They are made of 80% cotton and 20% polyester. Is this material alright to use on baby's bottom? Also, Do you wash your CD's and Wipes together even if they are different materials and colors? I don't want the wipes to mess up the diapers. Last question, Do you use the same laundry detergent on your CDs and wipes as you do for baby's clothing or do you use a separate detergent? Thank you.

Re: Wipes question

  • The fabric content will be fine.  You would more likely get irritation from a wipes solution than the actual wipe, as that stays on the skin.  I wash all my CD's and wipes together.  I use flannel wipes and I washed them in hot water before I made them for shrinkage and to get out any extra dye.  I use the EFF detergent for our CD's and wipes and will use that for the clothes too once I use up the Dreft we received as gifts.  HTH
  • I use the same 80/20 washcloths (Gerber by the dozen!) and they work fine with a spritz of plain water.

BTW most microfiber/fleece pocket diapers put 100% polyester next to your baby's butt. I wash my mostly-cotton wipes along with my polyester diapers no problem.

  • Wipes and cds are washed together.  Wipes, cds, and clothes are washed with the same detergent, just different loads.  I use Planet detergent for everything.
