High-Risk Pregnancy

BFP

I took a HPT yesterday and BFP.  My son was born premature because I developed HELLP Syndrome.  Since my son's birth we have moved and I have to start looking for an OB.

Should I be looking for a high risk OB instead of a regular one?  I'm going to call my last OB's office (the one I saw with my first pregnancy) to see what they say....maybe they can even recomend one?  I only moved 2 hours away into a bigger city where they almost sent me to deliver anyway....

Re: BFP

  • I had to go to my regular ob and then I got referred to the perinatologist.  It had nothing to do with insurance either (I have a ppo).  This particular perinatologist would not see anyone until they went through their ob.  I don't know if that is how they all work.  My ob does have high risk credentials, but he thinks its better to send truly high risk patients to a peri.

  • I had severe pre-e and hellp with my first pregnancy also resulting in a premature delivery.  And currently still have elevated blood pressure and am on meds.  I just found out that I am expecting again as well, so I called my regular OB's office and they referred me to a MFM (or high risk ob).  In your case you should probably call an ob's office and ask them what to do.  Hopefully they will refer you with no problem.  Or you could call your previous ob's office and see what they suggest.  Even if they are in another area they still may be able to help.  Best of luck!

  • Congrats on your bfp.. I am also on pregnancy #2 after pre e and hellp. my son was born at 39 weeks after getting pre e and hellp starting around 37 weeks. I kept the same dr.. not a high risk ob.. we moved when I was pregnant the first time.. so I had one ob for the first 1/2 of my pregnancy and then my current ob for the second half of pregnancy #1  she will be delivering baby #2 as well.. we have moved since baby #1 but I decided because of my history and I LOVE my ob that the 45 min drive to her office and the hospital I delivered #1 at is worth it. I am still considered high risk.. I take my bp every day and I have restrictions on travel as well as more frequent office visits.. so far so good! I would definatly call your old ob for advice.. maybe they can recommend an ob in your new city. gl!
