Trying to Get Pregnant

Suddenly Parenting a 17-Year Old-Not TTGPR

I love my little sis more than I can even say, but what an adjustment since she moved in with DH and me! Very strange to be suddenly "parenting" a 17/almost 18 year old.

This week was so draining- school social workers, therapists, SAT fee waivers and my own graduate school courseload. DH and I agreed that I would take the semester off from working after we closed our retail business in August, and I am thanking God I did- it is such craziness.

Today we went shopping for supplies for her AP Bio project-she has to construct a model of a nucleus(?) which is going to be pink, purple and turquoise-and then I dropped her off at her boyfriend's house for the afternoon and her BCP fell out of her pink bunny backpack and into my car. Ooops:)

DH and I are going to take a long weekend to go to the new Harry Potter theme park in Orlando sometime around my birthday this month. I'm not KU yet, and I think HP and some Disney fun are just what the doctor ordered, considering the month we've had!

At least when I do get KU, I will have had plenty of practice for when LO enters her/his late teens:)

  • Wow! It does sound like you've got your hands full! DH and I are going to Universal this weekend for the first time since HP opened, so I am excited to check it out since the weather is getting cooler!

  • Awesome! Let me know how you like it! I am so excited to go, but I am a frizzy-haired New Yorker-was *not* about to go down to FL during the summer months:) I hear it's super detailed and lots of fun.
  • It's so good to hear from you.  I was just wondering how you were doing.  Sounds like you're still adjusting. But, you are doing the right thing.  And your are setting a great example for you sister, which she needs right now.  Hang in there...things will get better.  Smile

How's the TTC? I mean now that your sister is there are you making any time for you and DH?

It was super crazy busy when it opened, and there was reports for a few weeks of people passing out from the heat, so we decided to wait until it was cooler and not so packed. I will definitely let you know how it is!

  • Well, the TTC is difficult right now- we are trying where we can. Her bedroom is right next to ours (very small house) so weekends when she's out and about are really the only time we have any privacy. So we're trying, but just figure it will happen whenever it happens right now.

It's actually not bad, other than that-the main thing is she is *safe*-my Mom would drive drunk with her in the car, and not know where she was until all hours, and even though it is not 100% ideal situation, that peace of mind alone is very precious to me and DH. We had offered my sis to come live with us for years earlier, but she was always very resistant, wanted to stay with Mom.

  • I am so glad to hear that things are going well. It sounds like she is adjusting.  And look on the bright side, your sisters BCP means she is being responsible! Enjoy Harry Potter, you deserve it.
  • You're amazing.  That's all my sleepy brain can come up with right now.  I'm dying to go to HP World, you'll have to update us on how it was!
    my currently-reading shelf:

  • I can relate, my then-16-year-old sister moved in with us for a month and a half when my family had to be in another city for that time, and it was  a MAJOR adjustment! Good for you!!!
    I'm a bird.
  • Glad to hear you guys are adjusting pretty well considering all you've been through.  As pp said, at least you know your lil sis is being safe.  Hand her some condoms to go with it then she's really good.  I admire all that you're doing, I really do.  Having said that, I am soooooo jealous of you going to Harry Potter world!  Please come back and tell us everything!

  • Hey! I was thinking about you this week and wondering what happened. I can't imagine how tough all that's happened has been for you but you seem to have a supportive husband which I'm sure helps. Good luck with your sister and school!
