BLW question

So we offered food to my DS for the first time tonight.  He's a little shy of 6 months, but was significantly overdue and was showing all the signs.  He finally got good at sitting unassisted this week, so I cut up some avocado strips tonight and also mashed some and put it on a spoon.

He picked up the spoon and stuck it right in his mouth and swallowed it like he'd been eating his whole life.

I cut him off after a while (he probably actually ingested a quarter of the avocado).  I haven't read a ton of the specifics on BLW, but are you supposed to actually stop them?

It was the first time he'd ever ingested anything except breastmilk so I didn't want him to eat indefinitely.

What are the rules?

Re: BLW question

  • from what i remember from the book they can regulate what they eat i think. as opposed to you feeding him say and ounce of xyz he feeds himself until he is content. he won't overeat ( at least i don't think so based on the book)

  • Thanks!

He was 20 lbs. at 4 months so he is a big guy.  I'm afraid this is the beginning of him eating me out of house and home.

He can pay you back for all of it when he's a star linebacker in the NFL!

I need to start a grocery fund for Caiden too.  :)  He was 19 1/2 at 4 months.  Between him and DH I'm in trouble.
