Anyone want to do a primal/paleo challenge with me?

I plan on starting tomorrow and doing it for the month of October.  Right now I eat paleo about 70% of the time, but I want to see if going 100% will make me feel even better.  Anyone interested?  It would be nice to have someone to help keep me accountable and to share meal plans with.

  • I eat this way often as well. I can't do it 100% though or I'd go nuts. <---no pun intended!

I do have a lot of blogs I look at for recipes though.

Here are some of my favorites:

Best of luck. I love cheese too much!

  • My husband eats paleo but I think there must be a way to do it that isn't so..gross. LOL I would be interested in seeing if y'all have any suggestions for actual meals rather than just a cucumber slathered with avacado and salsa. IF you do, I am up for a challenge.
  • LBIgirl79 thanks for the recipe blogs.  I am going to do some meal planning this weekend and could really use some new ideas.  Eating this way is actually pretty easy for me except for sweets!  My new love is coconut ice cream and it has to stop.

nerdsbride--I would be happy to send you my meal plans and go to recipes.

  • Julie1408 do you crossfit too?  My DH owns a gym and I've been getting back into it.  I wasn't faithful to it though from the start and hope to become a convert now that I have more motivation and time.

The one recipe from Everyday Paleo that was DELICIOUS was one my mom made for us when she was here helping us take care of the baby.  It is a stuffed portabello mushroom recipe.  It is stuffed with pork and ground beef.  It was phenomenal!

Nerdsbride- There is a way to eat primal/paleo with it actually tasting good, but I found it requires a lot of prep time.  Being about to find different recipes, then searching for some slightly odd ingredients (coconut flour, almond meal, and various spices that I don't frequently use), and then actually cooking it takes a bit.

My version of paelo/primal is that at dinner we have a meat and two veggies.  I don't use sugar, I don't use breadcrumbs for anything.  No corn or other highly starchy vegetables like regular potatoes.  A treat is a sweet potato.  You eat A LOT of eggs!

Oh, Julie Everyday Paleo has a cookie on the blog right now and there is a  almond/apple muffin that I might try.  Good luck to you!  You know what, I will log with you whatever paleo meals I do eat and help you stay on track if you like.  Oh and the coconut ice cream bars....divine!

  • LBlgirl79--I actually was pretty consistently doing crossfit workouts before I got pregnant.  DH has been doing it for almost three years now and has turn our garage into a gym.  I am looking to get back into it with the crossfit mom WODs.  I might take a few classes just to have someone else look at my form besides DH--I don't take criticism from him very well :).

Your version of paleo/primal is quite close to what we do.  Lots of eggs, coconut, and almond flour.  I have been using sugar to liberally though and our CSA has been giving us things like potatoes and corn and I have been cooking them.  I also love cheese and cook everything in butter.  Thanks for being willing to log things with me--nothing like a little peer pressure!

Nerdsbride--Mark's Daily Apple is a good place to start.  It has articles about the why and how of the primal lifestyle.

  • Julie-Sounds great.  How do you want to go about doing this?  We can do check ins with each other on WODS too :)  Our garage is also about 80% converted.  We need a pull up bar and more weights. It would be great to have a rower but thats not in the budget.

Last night I did a metcon of 30-15-10 of double unders, lunges and pushups. And push pressed up to 50 lbs.

I can start logging with you Monday.  It's my birthday this weekend so I'm going to be bad!

  • Okay that got me motivated to work out.  I did Baby Ryan, 3 rounds of 12 pull ups (box jump ones), 12 dips, and 15 burpees for a time of 8 mins 26 seconds.

My goal is to work out 4 times a week.  My baby is still an inconsistent sleeper, and I can work out with my two year old in the garage but it's not as focused. She has fun imitating me though!

How often do you want to check in?  Every 2-3 days?  I'll send you a PM Monday if that works for you.  Happy Birthday!  Enjoy!!!
