Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Talking (happily) for 1hr+ @routine naptime

Need your thoughts:

DD#1 has the same daily routine including lunch around 11:30 and then nap at noon.  Usually, she goes right down.  Lately (the past couple of weeks), she will talk, sing, and play for 30- 1hr+ instead and then EVENTUALLY will lay down and go to sleep.  I check on her to make sure she did not go poop but usually its that she doesn't seem tired.

WWYD?  Do I keep up the same routine or adjust to a different time table?  I've tried to put her down later, but then the day is completely out of whack and she doesn't go down at night.

I'd like to get her into a toddler bed soon, but I'd like to get this nap routine back in order beforehand.

TIA!!

  • At least yours takes a nap mine will be one in a week and he does not nap at all.  Hasn't for months now.

But some kids stop taking naps all together at this age.  I work in child care and it is very common for kids not to nap or only take a 20 min nap and there are good to go for the rest of the after noon.   Maybe after lunch do an outside activity with them and then lay her/him down, it might help.  Some kids get energized after eating, this maybe what is happening.  You have to remember as kids get older there body changes and routines are also going to change.  Hope this helps..
