Hmm...I'm not sure. I guess, if I was really attracted to the sound of it, I'd go ahead and name the child Alaska. At least that way people would get the spelling right.
My understanding of Aleska is that it's a somewhat modern variation of the Polish/Chech Elizabeth variant. I don't mind the sound and I can see it's appeal, but here in the states it's too similar to Alaska. As you can see from a couple of the PPs responses, people are going to read it as Alaska, anyway.
May I suggest the original form: Eliska? Similar sound, but far less likely to be confused and/or warrant moronic questions about the similarly-named State.
For the record, i would NEVER consider this name for my lo. An employees daughter named their girl Aleska, they call her Alli. I guess its her favorite hockey players name.

Well, it might not be your style (or mine, for that matter) but it is a legitimate name, albeit one little heard here in the States. They could have done much, much worse: )

What about Jessica or Alyssa, maybe Rebekah?
Not a fan. You might as well name her Alaska.
That's exactly what I thought! The first thing that popped into my head was, "I can see Russia from my house!"

I think Eliska sounds really pretty!
