Woud this bother you re- daycare

We may be looking for our 3rd provider in 7 months. First sitter went on maternity leave, second was just supposed to be temporary but now it looks like #1 may not be wanting to watch kids anymore as it has been 8 weeks and no call.

Thinking about setting up an interview with an in-home provider. On her weekly menu, 2 out of the 5 lunches this week have something I would not usually feed my child (hot pocket, mini corn dogs). He is only needing care 2 days a week so he won't be eating a lot of meals over there

Would you still meet with a daycare if you were less than thrilled with their menu choices? I have a very hard time finding daycares that will take him part time so our options are limited.

  • I wouldn't rule her out if the menu is your only issue with her. I would just provide my own food for my kid.
  • Yep, I would. I'd be way more interested in how the provider interacts with the kids. A corn dog or hot pocket every now and then isn't the end of the world.

  • Ditto Elise and femme. The quality of the food isn't that high up on my priority list, compared to the quality of the education or care for example. Since it's only 2 days a week, if you're that unhappy with it, you can always ask her if you can send along alternate food. I would suggest that you talk to her about it first though to make sure she's okay with that. Some preschools do not allow outside food, unless allergies are involved.
  • Well, I have been desperate for daycare before, so I never rule anything out until I actually go there and see the place.  If the menu is the only problem, I would be fine sending my kids there so long as she is fine with me bringing my kids' lunch on the days I absolutely don't want them eating what she is having.  And I have done that in the past.

  • You can always send in a packet lunch.

  • I would never want my daycare choosing my child's meals, so I would only choose somewhere I could bring food in from home, so I wouldn't worry about their menu as long as I was allowed to bring in my own food.  If that's your only concern and you're otherwise very happy with the care they will be providing then I would definitely  choose them and have DS brown bag it for lunch.
