It has been 9 years (on Oct 4th) since my DD was born and trying to remember my last experience with this. (Will never forget the day my cerclage was removed 9/11/01) Anyway...I remember it was in my high risk dr's office...and it being "uncomfortable" not very painful or if it was my mind has blocked it out! LOL While I had it in I don't remember it hurting/pulling as much as it has this time around (could be because this baby seems more active than DD was and also my current high risk dr is known for his "fort knox", as he calls them, cerclages! He told me the worse is trying to get the stitch to separate around the scarred tissue, but pulling it out should be fine. It's crazy that I am more nervous about this feeling vs. our plan for an all natural med-free birth! ha ha He did say I have to stay off my feet that day and to take it easy after that (I will be 37 weeks so if the baby decides to come he will be full term. With DD she stayed for another 3 weeks without the cerclage and came ON her due date). DId you all have bleeding, cramping, pain after? How was it when it was removed? Refresh my memory. Will be saying bye to "fort knox" on Tuesday....very grateful for the time we had and for keeping my baby safe and cooking away the whole pregnancy!
Re: cerclage removal question
I just had mine taken out yesterday, after 16 weeks of bedrest! It was at my perinatologist's office, but I'm not going to lie to you, for me it really hurt. She had the speculum in there for a full 30 minutes while she dug around for it. I had contractions during it, and I tried very hard to stay calm and relaxed. Once it was out, I was sore for about 20 minutes or so, and had a nasty wave of contractions for about an hour. I went home, took my procardia and laid down for an hour. Afterwards, I've been feeling as I was before, tired, sore, contracting every 10-15 minutes, but not awful.
It hurt more than I thought, but less than I'd feared. Eventhough it only happened yesterday, I almost already forgot exactly how painful it was because I'm so happy to have made it to 36 weeks and be the most pregnant I've ever been!!
Good luck!!
