Question About Carriers

I really want to invest in a quality carrier but I am a giant fat-fat and am concerned that it won't fit.  Does anyone know of anywhere where I could "try on" an Ergo?  I have a Moby wrap and it works but not with much room left.  I'd prefer a structured carrier at this point as the Moby (because of my fat-fat-ness) is too constricting for DS.

Thanks for any advice.  This is a real post, btw.

Re: Question About Carriers

  • The only store I know that sells Ergos is Buy Buy Baby.
  • Loading the player...
  • I would say try a woven wrap (the carries are different than the moby carries) but I'm slightly addicted to wovens and don't really care for buckles.  thebabywearer.com has a forum to help you find babywearing groups in your area and most have great lending libraries with every type of carrier you could imagine!

Do you mind if I ask what area you are in?

Enter your zip code and find places near you. I'd call before you go but most place should let you try before you buy.

With the Moby, I always feel like DS was going to fall out.  I never felt comfortable wearing him without having one hold bracing him... which kind of defeated some of the purpose of using a carrier rather than just holding, you know?

I had an Infantino-brand (cheap) structured carrier that I used for awhile which I preferred over the Moby - The problem is that DS is at the 95th percentile for height and he outgrew it very quickly - I'm assuming because it was a $20 carrier.

Good idea on looking for a wearing group in my area.  Not sure we'd have one but worth a shot.  I'm in Fresno - Central California.

  • You could try a woven, they come in different lengths.

I think "Giant fat-fat" is my new favourite phrase.

Thank you!  A specialty store I've never been to, just a few blocks from me, carries them!  Thanks!

  • A woven will feel very different from the moby, much more supportive, cooler, and more comfortable over all for me.

This link has the phone number of the leader of the Fresno API group (attatchment parenting international)  She should be able to help you get in touch with any local bw-ing groups. https://www.attachmentparenting.org/groups/webca.php

  • Check your area for local baby shops.  Not sure where you are located, but from what I have seen there are small shops popping up every where that have carriers you can try on.  We have an Ergo Organic ourselves and it does get pretty big around the waist (I think 45") and you can buy a waist extender if needed.
