Just curious. I am a little overweight and I have only gained 6 lbs in almost 24 weeks. My dr doesnt seem to be concerned and the babies were a good weight at my last u/s. I also have GD which is making it difficult to gain weight.
How much weight did you gain?
Does being overweight to start mean that you dont have to gain as much even with multiples? I only gained 11 with DD#1
Thanks
Re: If you were not a stick before you got pregnant...
Some doctors have differing view points on weight gain, some say if you are overweight then the less gained is better, others are on the opposite end of the spectrum. However with twins, all bets are off and the weight gain for a singleton is not the same as with multiples. I would just make sure to keep eating healthy and the babies will get from you what they need.
I weighed around 200 when I got pregnant with the twins and didn't gain anything until 18ish weeks, I had lost 10lbs due to m/s at the beginning. I ended up gaining 59lbs by the time they were delivered (granted about 20lbs of it was water). My OB expressed concern that I wasn't gaining weight and they monitored me more closely, but he was happy with my weight gain.
I'm going through the exact same thing. I've put on about 3 - 5 pounds so far. Diagnosed with GD at 12 weeks.
But the babies are growing well and I am eating healthy so I am trying hard not to stress out.
I was overweight when I got pregnant. I'm 5'7 and weighed about 200 lbs pre-pregnancy. (damn infertility weight gain!) Anywho, my weight gain was slow and very gradual. I only gained about 6 pounds in the first trimester and didn't gain the majority of the weight until they last 12 weeks. When I delivered at almost 36 weeks, I weight 237. My doctor was not concerned at all because the babies had always been healthy weights at my ultrasounds. When I went in for my first postpartum appt one week after delivery (because of csection) I was 10 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight, and by my 6 week appt, I was 10 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight.
I would say just make sure you eat LOTS of protein and don't worry. You might just end up ahead of the game!
