Allergist Appointment

C tested negative for everything on a skin test, which means that when we eventually reintroduce things, he shouldn't have a respiratory reaction, which is great. He said it's most likely proctocolitis (I think?) and C should outgrow it by a year old.?

He said definitely avoid dairy and soy, but try everything else one by one and see how he does. We'll continue seeing our pediatric GI for now.? I'm a little disappointed, but I did get some answers about what it is and I feel better knowing the reaction in the case of a slip up by me is limited to his digestion and not something more dangerous. Guess we'll try reintroducing soon. Thanks for the support everyone!!

  • I'm glad the appt. went well and hope the reintroductions are a sucess. I will have to research the "procto" diagnosis.

  • I'm glad he didn't have any adverse reaction to the skin test!

I think I'm going to start re-introducing peanuts after DS is 6 months old, so hopefully for us too he won't have any more reactions.

You're doing an awesome job, and hopefully C will do fine as you start re-introducing other foods.  That would be great if you can start adding things you love back into your diet.

  • The doctor said that proctocolitis usually presents with vomiting and diarrhea.  I guess it's an immune reaction to food in the lower digestive tract.

    Here's some info I found:

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10634300

C's symptoms were a bit more severe, including weight loss in the beginning, extreme fussiness, etc., but he's doing SO much better now.

  • Glad your appt went well, and it must be a relief to know that he won't have any respiratory reactions. We found out (surprisingly) on Monday that DD is allergic to peanuts. :(

Good luck with the reintroduction process.. hope he tolerates it well!

  • Oh I hope you can add some foods back! Our GI & allergist said do one every 3-4 days, preferably one per week if that's helpful at all.

  • That is great news!   Congrats!  Let me know how it goes adding things back in.

Right now I am having a hard time distinguishing LO uncomfortable/in pain=teeth or uncomfortable/in pain=mommy ate bread.

She seemed to do okay but had a bit of the poops.  No blood though.
