I don't like it, haven't ever heard of it before either. When I first saw it I thought Seamonkey. So obviously its not that well known, I have some green in my blood too but I take more after the German and French side. I am sure she didn't mean to offend anyone and there is not any reason to start being b!tches. Its just not her style I would guess, and obviously she didn't know how to pronounce it.

Oh of course. Because if YOU haven't heard of it, the rest of the world must be living under a rock too.

Your response is absurd. What does taking after your French and German side have to do with this argument? Why does it matter that you're Irish? You've already said you weren't familiar with the name, claiming Irish blood after the fact makes you appear even more unaware.
Besides, if you don't know anything about Irish/French/German cultures (which, by the way, includes names originating in those cultures) and have lived your life here in the States, where I'm guessing you were also born, then you're American. Your ancestors might have been French or Irish or Masai for all we care, but you're not. You're an American. And that, my dear, has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread--you don't have to be Irish to be familiar with Irish names and you certainly don't have to be Irish to discuss Irish names and, finally you don't have to be Irish to search for Irish names on the internet!
But I digress . . . the point I really need to make is that you're a newbie to this board and you're jumping in to defend someone who was rude and foolish to post a thread without doing the simplest of web searches beforehand. Pray tell, what is defensible about that?
I was referring to the fact that I have enough of it in my blood to be able to still say that I am part Irish, and that PP said that Irish people would name their kids it, and one said they were Irish so its a good name for them. I don't have any Seamus in my previous generations that I have found, nor have I ever met a Seamus. I was defending because I have lurked here for awhile and have seen quite a few names and people naming their children being bad mouthed, why flame her because she doesn't like the name and you do or was just following suit with quite a few posts already here? How many of you have heard of the name Troxell? because its been in my family for generations.... Should I just put it out there that if you haven't heard of it you live under a rock?

She title her post "who in their right mind would name their baby Seamus?" and then said those who did are on crack. How the he** is that her doing anything BUT trying to offend people? She was the one being a b!tch, not the people on here who were answering her question. You really should have read her OP before coming on here and defending her. And to answer her question, I would, in my right name, name my baby Seamus, I love that name.

People on here make fun of MADE UP NAMES, not real names. I bet you have never once seen someone on this board say "I just heard the worst name ever... JAMES!" No, you see people make fun of made up names like in the "Don't Need a Man" post below. People may say that they don't like a name, or it is not their style, or even harsher things than that, but they do not start entire threads slamming a real name. That is the difference, and it is a big one.
Next, you are going to tell me I'm on crack for considering the Spanish version of Seamus- Santiago. I happen to think both are lovely variations of James.

That is crazy! Who would ever name their kid Santiago?! You must be on crack!

You're a big @ss. It's pronounced Shay-mus. It's a very nice Irish name.
You should really check your self before you post sh!t like this. It's rude, and offensive.
This!
OP exactly what do you think is wrong with Seamus. Yes it is a little old fashioned but I think it is a great name.

It's a pretty classic Irish name. I guess you haven't heard it. It's pretty common around Boston.
I did hear someone on a reality show say it "See-mus" which made me LOL.
I totally would, if I hadn't named my cat Seamus, that is.
May I recommend looking a name up before bashing it on a public board? You just made yourself look like an idiot.

I love that name. Of course, you probably didn't know how to pronounce it. I'm sure no one here is shocked by that .
Are you, or is it just the rock you live under putting too much pressure on your head?
