Pink eye?

We have been having a hard time with bedtime and the past few nights DD has been crying when we put her to bed.  DH has had to sleep on her floor so out of desperation we let her cry last night.  She cried on and off for about 45 minutes and then went to sleep.

When DH got her up today he said it looked like snot had dried on the side of her face and one of her eyes was very puffy and red.  There was something gooey and white in it (sorry gross) and I thought maybe it was a booger or something from her crying and rubbing her face in it.  Over the course of the morning the gooey stuff came out and it was greenish and just looked like little chunks of boogers (sorry lol) and her eye was much less puffy.

Well when I put her down for her afternoon nap for cried on and off again for 20-30 minutes and when I got her up her eye was really puffy and red again and had more green stuff coming out of it.

Do you think this could be pink eye?  If it is pink eye do they give medicine for it and just let it run it's course?

Re: Pink eye?

  • Sounds like pink eye to me.  I got it myself a few years back from public computer labs in college!  They perscribe an eyedrop that I think I had to do 3 times a day and told me not to rub it or touch it (kinda hard with a LO) but just make sure to keep her hands (and yours) clean wash bedding and lovies.  It will clear up in about a week with the perscription

  • Yes, that could be pink eye and yes you need to treat it. They will give you drops usually to put in her eye a few times a day. It usually clears up pretty quick. If it is pink eye it is pretty contagious and you guys should be washing your hands like crazy so you don't get it.
  • Yes that sounds exactly like pink eye. The good news is that after 2ish applications of the eye drops, it should clear up and she is considered no longer contagious after 24 hours of being on the drops.
