new here...where to start?

Hi Ladies!

I'm in the process of adopting a newborn and am excited about the possibility of being able to wear him/her.  It's all new to me, but I cannot think of a better way to bond with my baby...especially since we didn't get the 9 months of internal bonding.  Oh, and the hubs is interested in BW too!

Any suggestions as to where to start?  Information on the wraps/slings; or maybe a website for newbs?

Thanks in advance!

  • Congratulations on your adoption!

I think everyone has different preferences as far as what wraps work best for them.  Check and see if there are any local stores near you that have a good selection of carriers.  Preferably a place that will allow you to try them out before hand.

Thanks...I'll see what I can find.  I would love to be able to try them out before buying.   :)

  • Congratulations!!!  Also, I know there is at least one person on here who adopted their little one.  Maybe someone else can supply the name, all I can think of is the picture in her siggy.
  • check out The Baby Wearer site (thebabywearer.com) and Baby Wearing International. See if there's a local group that has regular meetings - check meetup, too.

We started with the moby - there's a learning curve, but once you've got it down it is THE best newborn snuggle, in my opinion.

And kudos to your husband. Real men wear their babies Wink ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYdI7HH9PW0 ...warning - at about 1:30 your ovaries might explode. ;-) )

  • Congratulations!!!  You might also try and find a babywearing group in your area.  Most have great lending libraries for testing out different carriers.

Here is ncbelle's wrapping guide, just click the blue words for more info on each carrier.  https://www.becomingmamas.com/babywearing-2/
(I'm not sure where you are located, but ncbelle's group is in NC)

  • Then you should get in contact with ncbelle, if I'm not mistaken her group is in the Durham area!

  • Congrats, again :D

Also, a tad off topic, but.. I still find it a bit strange that BW is so "different" that there are groups for it! I don't know if I will ever not be culture shocked by this! It's just so easy and makes perfect sense..!??!?! But I guess I'm preaching to the choir here! ;P
