I am expecting my 4th child and 3rd boy. We have picked the name Noel (rhymes with Joel) but I do not want to use that spelling for 2 reasons. First, my SIL is a Christmas baby and her name is Noel and second, I don't want there to be any confusion over gender/pronunciation.
My dilemma is to whether to forget my reasons and go with the traditional spelling (Noel) or change it to something very easy (Nole). Another option would be Nowell but I think that might be confusing too. Any thoughts?
Re: Name spelling help
I prefer the traditional spelling. What if you named him Nolan nn Nole??

Noel is nms however I do agree with the rest
Crazy...you read my mind!
Yeah, there are Noel's out there...it may take a few correctings, but I think you're better off sticking with the original.

I disagree. Noel is the commonly accepted male name, and only pronounced no-elle when it's in the context of Christmas.
This. Noel, the French word is pronounced one way, and Noel the name is pronounced the other.

Pronunciation errors aside, I find it VERY strange to use the exact same spelling as your SIL.
The original spelling is best, but I would just find another name. Nolan is a great alternative.
None of the above. I'd pick something else entirely.
