I was just talking to a friend and our little sisters are friends, when I told her what my sister was naming her baby she said her sister told her and didn't know if my sister was kidding or not? Really is Billy that bad/weird.
I wouldn't name my kid Billy - like is the name really William and they will call him Billy? Or is the name on the birth certificate going to be Billy? To each their own, though.
It's not a bad/weird name but I would only use it as a nickname. I suppose he could go by Bill when he's an adult ... b/c I have never met any grown man called Billy.
I know lots of Williams or Wills, but I don't know any little kids named Billy. It's not my style, but I don't think it's that bad, really. That's kind of rude for her to tell you she thought your sister was joking.
I'm not sure if the birth certificate will be William or Billy but my BIL's dad is William and his best friend is Billy and we all went to high school with two Billy's. I think it was just rude of her to say and just gives me more reason to not like her sister.
My dad's name is William, and he goes by Bill (although is sister still calls him Billy, which must be a habbit). I also dated a Bill for a long time in college. I don't think it is a strange name at all.
Yes it's bad IF they name him Billy only. As a variation of William, it's fine. I read Freakonomics and they poorest names were Billy, Bobby, Jimmy, etc as their first (not proper) name.
It's not bad. We have several William's in our family that go by Bill/Billy. I personally wouldn't make his given name Billy, but I would call a kid that.
It's not bad just old...my grandpa was William & he named my Mother Billie because she was the last child (4 girls), he always wanted a son. LOL she hates her name.
Re: Is Billy that bad of a name?
well, it is usually short for William... but it is pretty old school. most Bills or Billies (Billys?) I know are older than 60.
NMS. I'd go with Will or Liam over Bill, Billy or Willy. ; )
