Can someone please explain tailgating to me?

Prior to the football game, we set up tents and barbecue/eat/drink all day.  That's the simplest way I can explain it.  But since there are these tents and barbecue and mobile homes (in a special lot) all over campus, it's like one gigantic party.  And it's super fun.

 And thanks for your advice - I think I'm going to go to the hospital at lunch.  B's going to meet me there.

My definition:  Hanging out with friends by your truck with the tailgate down...drinking beer....bbqing hot dogs and watching football.  You usually tailgate either before or after a football game...or both.

It is one of the best parts of going to the games!

We generally bring a grill, cook food, have a few drinks and hang out with friends. The excitement from everyone around is awesome. You make "friends" with all the people near you, you yell, get pumped for the game, play games, whatever.

Unless it referred to driving really closely behind the person in front of you. . .
