Video/Camera during birth?

My DH and I want a video or OUR expressions when DD is born and some pics of him cutting the cord, etc.  But who do we have do it?  Should we have someone extra in the room (like his sister) in the room during the whole thing, or have her on call so DH can call her right before she comes (DH's idea, I don't think he'll be thinking of that!)  Or will the nurses do it?  I really only want my DH in room during labor but am open.  Any advice would be great!  TIA!

Re: Video/Camera during birth?

  • some hospitals don't allow video during delivery.  i'd check with your hospital's policy before planning this.  i also wouldn't expect the nurses to film for you.  i'd think about having another person you are comfortable with being there.

  • I think if you want the pictures you want than you will need to have someone in the entire time.  I doubt a nurse will leave when you are delivering to get someone for pictures.  FYI - ask your doc about pictures.  Some hospitals are not allowing video or photo's during birth.

  • Check hospital policy on # of visitors allowed in the room.

No, the nurses won't do it as they'll be busy WORKING during delivery.  They aren't standing there for fun.  You may be able to have one of them snap a quick picture of the cord cutting, but that's not guaranteed.

  • our doula will be taking candids after the birth (no video during - we really don't want to see that).
  • My mom and Dh will be in the delivery room so I'm pretty sure I'll get enough pictures between the two of them, My mom will probably just snap a couple of DH's expression, first pictures and cutting the cord. DH on the other hand will probably use the camera to torture me and keep his mind off his fainting/gagging reflexes!
