Boy/Girl twin names *Warning unique spellings*

My little brother is currently obsessed with writing everything backwards.   He found out I liked the name Isaac and started writing it backward as well. He noticed that Isaac backwards (Caasi) looked close to Cassie.  DH loved the idea and played with the spellings of both to make Issac and Cassi.  I actually really like them.  What do you all think?  Yes I know its you-neek, but it puts a new spin on matching sibling names.

  • I like both of the names spelled correctly.  I think spelling them backwards or whatever is a bit tacky.  Maybe use their correct spellings and just know that you got the idea from Isaac spelled backwards.

This. As cute as matching twins' names by spelling one forward and the other backward (Heaven and Nevaeh are a popular set), keep in mind that these are two entirely separate people you're naming. They don't want to be just one half of a whole.

Cassandra (NN Cassie) and Isaac make a great twin set because the names don't match in some cutesy way. I vote that.

  • I'm going to bite my tongue and keep this as polite as possible:

Your child's name should not be a word game.

  • Noooooooo! Don't do it.

It's about 5% cool. When tweeked, they can be the reverse of eachother, but I see that more as a fleeting amusement than something to build anything of an identity around. The other 95%... well, it's essentially a gimmick, and I think the spellings will set you up for more negative than positive reactions.

If you like a name, you need to like it enough to pick a standard (or culturally significant) spelling. If you have to change the spelling to make it work, it's not the right name.

Another thought: though I like the idea of sibling names complementing each other, I don't think that children--even twins-- should be named as individuals, and their names should not necessarily be picked out in relation to one another.

Cassie and Isaac are nice, but please don't change the spelling for the reasons you mentioned.

  • Are you even having twins? Or are you just having fun with letters? Or thinking someone else might like these names? Just not sure what the point is.
  • I'm sorry, but that's a really terrible idea.

    Go with Cassandra and Isaac.

I'm not sure if we are having twins or not.  DH and our mothers think I am.  I am waiting till the u/s.   DH and LB came up with this today and I did like them, so I thought I'd see what everyone here had to say.  I'm not a fan of Cassandra as a name, but I do like Cassie, weird I know.  If we have twins now or in the future, I am pretty sure Cassie and Isaac will be in the running.  I may have to fight DH on the spelling, but if he's really determined I may just give in and let him have it.

  • I think that the anagram twin thing only works when the names are nice enough as stand-alone names. For example, I think Alice and Celia are nice names on their own and they sound like sister names, so the anagram thing is just a bonus. One anagram set ? Aidan and Nadia ? made the top 10 twin names in 2009.

Isaac is such a distinguished name, but Cassie is too nicknamey. I agree w/ pp ? go w/ Cassandra as a given name. You can still call her Cassie (or Caasi or whatever), but she won't have to sustain that game into adulthood.

I hadn't thought of that.  It makes sense, I would have hated being Jessie into my adult years.   Thank you.

  • Please don't.

I was only pregnant with twins for 10 weeks, but in that time we had discussed making sure we named the babies as INDIVIDUALS and not as a cutesy box set.

The anagram thing, like others have said, only works with names that stand alone well.  Nadia and Aidan both look fine alone.  Cassi and Issac both look completely misspelled on their own.  When they apply for jobs, Issac (which is like butchering the name Michael or David because it is so traditional) will not have his twin sister next to him to explain how "cute" the spelling is because his sister "matches".

Think about them as ADULTS and picture their names on resumes.  You really aren't naming a baby or twin babies.  You are naming individuals who will live with their name at 1,5,25,55....
