FU: Postman

I posted a while back about my mailman not picking up my mail if I have none to be delivered that day. A lot of you said that he DOES have to pick it up, and I should call. I did today and they said he's not OBLIGATED to pick up mail if there is nothing incoming.

Makes me mad, and I almost feel like they are lying to me. Aren't our taxes supposed to pay for both? *sigh* I guess I'd better start doing bills online instead.

Re: FU: Postman

  • Well, that sucks. Did you call the branch or did you call the main number? I found when I was having problems with a branch and I dealt with them directly, I got nothing. When I filed a complaint with the main office, I got results. That didn't last long before they were doing the same thing again, but it was something at least.

  • I called the branch. I felt like they were just saying that to get me off their backs. Maybe I should call the main number....

  • That's not correct at all.  I double checked with my mom after giving you advice in your last post and she said he absolutely has to pick it up!  There should be a main post office in your district.  Call your branch back and ask for their number.  If you have to, go to usps.com and find a customer service number and file a formal complaint through the system.  Sounds to me like that entire branch is trying to get away with things that they shouldn't be able to get away with.  Good luck!

ETA:  If you can't get the help you need, PM me and I will ask my dad for a contact number for you.  He is a union steward at his station and will be able to connect you to the right people somehow.

  • Thanks, I'll be calling the main number tomorrow, as they are closed right now! Thanks so much for the advice. I felt like such a crazy person when they lady was like, no they don't have to. I really appreciate you asking your mom! :D

  • Yeah they are 100% wrong.

FIL runs the post office plant at night, and MIL is the postmaster at her office. I had an issue last year. I put my mail (bills) on the previous Thursday with the stick thing up. I checked on Friday-mail still there. Never checked mail on Saturday. Went on Sunday to check Saturday's mail and my outgoing mail is still there. And it was Columbus day weekend. MIL told me to file a complaint online on the usps website. I did-- no issues since.

  • Yeah, I called yesterday, and they said they aren't obligated to pick it up if nothing is incoming...this was from the main customer service line. Maybe you all have REALLY nice mail carriers :(
