TTC after 35

Re-Intro

Hello, I introduced myself a long time ago and then I never really made my way back here.  I am usually on the TTCAL 6+ board.  I see some familiar faces here.

Anywho... I am Jenn and 38 quickly approaching 39, DH is 43.  We have been at this game for quite some time.  After 14 mos of ttc we had our first bfp last October.  Sadly we lost our baby at 11 weeks on November 30th.  We hopped back in and tried to conceive again with no luck.

In April we consulted with an RE to learn that I have low ovarian reserve.  After a lot of blood work, hsg, and jumping hurdles we moved straight in to IUI in May and June both of which failed.  We took a break this summer due to DH having surgery and just trying to figure out what our plan was.  In August, we decided to move forward with IVF with PGS.  We went through a lot of difficulties obtaining our drug and getting the funds together as it is 100% out of pocket.  Well, Friday I had my baseline and was waiting for the go ahead to begin injections.  Much to my dismay the RE cancelled our cycle due to my FSH being 14.  He will only proceed if it is below ten.  He didn't have anything to offer in advice or hope.  I am quite upset with this since he never said anything regarding levels previously.  I have repeated b/w results with over 10, nothing ever was below.  Angry and just sad, I don't know how he could ignore this.

We spent the weekend picking up the broken pieces again and making a new plan of attack.  We are seeking a second opinion with another RE and switching acupuncturists.  I eat a very balanced diet, organic whole foods and am now including daily wheatgrass, I am also very active (I could lose a few pounds though).  I have read several findings that acupuncture and wheatgrass can help lower the levels.  From my readings, my FSH isn't to terribly bad.

I was hoping anyone could share their experiences.  Best wishes to all.

Re: Re-Intro

  • You RE is just horrible to lead you on like that if they didn't intend to treat you with the FSH level you had since day one!  I'm sure you'll find a better RE and you'll be well on your way.   I wish I had more info for you only support.Good luck!

  • Hi - nice to see you over here.  I know there are some other ladies with high FSH so I hope you get some good advice - I also know some of them have moved on to the PG board!

I'm shocked about your RE - I assumed that was your first FSH test (which seemed weird).  I definitely think you should move on.

It wasn't my second FSH test, which is why I am so upset.  I can't understand why this wouldn't have been brought up in the 7 months I have been seeing him.

I was thinking the same thing--how could he have not brought it up before?  Grrr... I can't believe he'd be so apathetic to your investment of hope, not to mention time and finances, in his procedures!  Good luck finding a new doc.  I hope he/she is more attentive and upfront with you.
