Can I fill this out?? We're not even pregnant yet lol. But we have already supported the opening of an independent birthing center. I'd love a homebirth, but being so far from the nearest hospital makes hubby nervous.
How old are you? 29
Where do you live (urban/rural)? Rural, a few minutes outside of town, about 50min from the city.
What is your marital status (married, in a relationship, single, etc.)? Married
How many kids do you already have (if any)? None

And if you'd like, what are your religious/political leanings? Agnostic; moderate with liberal leanings.
decided to post because i think i'm the farthest from a stereotypical natural birther i've met. haha.
Age-19
Urban/Rural-Raised VERY rural, now living in a small urban area
marital status-unmarried but in a weird habit of referring to bf as dh. (i feel like bf points out my age too much or something. idk . . . )
Kids-no other kids. thank the heavens....
education-high school and very little college. hoping to finish a bachelors someday...really though. i'm gettin on it asap after lo comes.
job-planning on being a SAHM/student
religious/political-LDS/libertarian
and while everyone is here...I'd just like to say thank you to all the wonderful women who've posted birth stories the last few months. and all of the great support you guys show here.
Honestly finding the information i have about natural birth has made the difference of me deciding to keep my baby. When I started to learn about natural birth I had an adoptive family picked out and was about to contact them. To some that statement may sounds so extreme. But it is absolutely true. I feel like I have the power to do such an amazing thing at this time in my life when I'm so powerless. We really don't have anything. But it doesn't cost us any money to give our son the greatest possible start in life that we know.
sorry to get all personal. But I'm just so proud of myself for making such a turn around from kind of birth i was facing haha.

Given my druthers, I'd be happily planning a homebirth, since that's been my preference since the age of 8(having been present at the births of all three of my siblings, I decided after my little sister was born at home that that was the way to go--no needles, no sick people, just family and someone to look after you). Unfortunately, I'm considered high-risk, so I'm aiming for the next best thing.

We're what we call hippie yuppies--living in our builder home in the suburbs with our two golden retrievers and our compost bin and spray bottle of vinegar. I know that's pretty much par for the course in a lot of places, but in suburban Dallas, it's not that common.
It didn't make sense to me to spend so much time taking care of this body and then stop listening to it when it really needed to speak to me the most--and certainly I won't speak for my daughter and give her medication she didn't ask for. Did I want anesthesia for my knee surgery? Hell yes. Having a baby isn't knee surgery.

Politically speaking, I am certainly considered a Liberal.
I live just outside Atlanta (by 1/2 a mile) - my address is ATL.
Married for 2 glorious years!
I have 1 - was intended as a natural birth.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing as well as an Assoc. in Emergency medical Services and a paramedic certificate.
I am a SAHM (80%) and an Emergency Room RN @ Trauma Center in downtown ATL (and yes, it is just like Discovery Health - except smellier)
We are conservative Jews and I am a registered Democrat, but I am only a Dem. b/c I believe in allowing women to decide what to do with their bodies and pregnancies, otherwise I'm more to the other side (oh, and I hate guns and hunting).
The Knot won't share my Bump Siggy, so here's the low-down:
4/27/07 - Got engaged!
8/31/08 - Got married (to my best friend)!
12/30/08 - Got Pregnant!
9/3/09 - Welcome to the world, Elias Solomon!
8/16/10 - Got Pregnant, again!
5/14/11 - Welcome to the world, Talia Hadassah!
1/14/12 - Ready or not, here comes #3 (EDD 9/27/12)
A thread over on 2nd tri last week got me thinking - a lot of ppl hold stereotypes regarding those who choose natural birth. So, in order to help dispell some of those stereotypes (although, those who hold them probably aren't reading this), I'd like to get to know some of you better. Feel free to answer all or some or none of these questions, and add anything you'd like.
How old are you? 30 on Sunday
Where do you live (urban/rural)? urban, PacNW
What is your marital status (married, in a relationship, single, etc.)? Married 3 years
How many kids do you already have (if any)? 1
What is your level of education? Ph.D. in molecular biology, working on my J.D.
What is your job (SAHM counts too!)? College instructor and law student
And if you'd like, what are your religious/political leanings?
Agnostic, super liberal and getting more so the older I get.
I'm a scientist. I do not buy in to the general fear of the medical establishment. I think doctors do the best they know how to do with what they're taught. But, as a scientist, I strongly believe in evidence based medicine...and the evidence clearly shows that natural birth is better for mom and baby, and that midwives are the practical experts in natural birth.
I do not fit the stereotype in that I do not support "treatment" that is not evidence-based (ie chiropractors, homeopathy, and acupuncture). But we do cloth diaper, recycle, eat organically as much as we can, and live in a very liberal community, so I suppose I do fit it in some ways.
The hair grows in thick where the horn used to be.
How old are you? 27Where do you live (urban/rural)? suburban What is your marital status (married, in a relationship, single, etc.)? married How many kids do you already have (if any)? This is our first What is your level of education? Master's of Science What is your job (SAHM counts too!)? Speech Pathologist And if you'd like, what are your religious/political leanings? Undecided/Undecided. I am semi-crunchy. I was strictly vegan prior to this pregnancy and still vegetarian and only eat some cheese randomly. I try to buy organic foods and recycle everything I can. We don't compost (I'd love to but we need a fence first so the stupid dog next door wouldn't get sick from eating decaying food from our backyard) or will cloth diaper (I'd love to but DH says no- we may do something like seventh generation diapers or the sort to make some sort of compromise), but I use all recycled paper products in our house and keep our cleaning products without harsh chemicals as well. I am also a HUGE fan of cosmeticdatabase.com and check there frequently as I try to keep my makeup/personal products with as few chemicals and harmful ingredients as possible.
