3rd Trimester

VBAC

This is something that I have been debating about.. What made you girls decide to do it? Weren't you worried about the risks etc? Please tell me what made you decide to go this route?I am left with making this decision but not too sure what to do yet...

Re: VBAC

  • I spoke to my doctor.  The risks associated with vbac and no higher than the risks associated with a repeat c-section.  I would prefer natural over anything so that is how I made my choice.

  • I have a 22 month old son and I wanted to have a faster recovery than recovering from major surgery so I am going to do a trial of labor this time around. I never labored the first time so I am a really good candidate and the risks are very slight compared to another c-section surgery. I know my MW will be monitoring me and if there are problems there will be a doc around. I trust my care providers and they are all very supportive but not pushy about me trying for a VBAC.

Its a very personal decision. Good luck.

  • Recovery- I had one natural delivery and one c-scetion. The recovery with a vaginal delivery is so much better than a c-section. Less painful and much quicker.
  • The risk of uterine rupture is roughly .5% - pretty low, frankly. And like pp said, the recovery from a vaginal delivery is a lot faster, which is important when you have another kid to take care of. www.vbacfacts.com is a good website with tons of info. hth and good luck!

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • I decided to go for a trial of labor if I went into labor on my own as the risk for uterine rupture is much lower than I thought and I thought the recovery would be better/quicker....especially now that I have a 2 year old at home!  However, I have a c-section scheduled for the day before my due date in case nothing happens.  Not looking good...my scheduled section is in 3 days and I've had no activity!  I'll be fine with a repeat section if that's the way it happens since I feel like I tried to let things happen naturally.  Good luck!
