at my last apt with my midwife i asked her when we start internals - she said they typically dont do them.  Thoughts - it seems like most of you are talking about having them done.  She said she would do one if i wanted her to as we get closer to the end.  It seems like a strange thing to ask for but i am sure as the end nears i am going to want to know if i am making any progress....

My midwives don"t due them until 40 wks unless there is a concern, etc.  In reality they really don't tell you much since ladies can be dilated at 37 wks and have no change until 40 wks, etc.  It hasn't bothered me one bit but if you really want one, let them know.

My MW don't do them unless I really want one.  My old OB practice didn't do them either.   They really don't tell you anything, as you can be walking around 3 cm dilated for weeks or not at all and have a baby the next day. Besides, they really hurt and every time someone is in there, you are at risk for an infection.

Save yourself the money.  They hurt and aren't going to tell you when you're going to go into labor.
