Yes, we have thought about getting one done after month 6. I know it can take a healthy couple a year, but it seems like a fairly simple first step to (hopefully) rule out MFI. It is also fairly inexpensive, so I'd be willing to pay OOP for it.
It would give me a little peace of mind since I know from charting that I am more than likely "working" correctly. It would be nice to know that DH is as well. Or to know if there is an issue so that we can start dealing with it instead of waiting 6 more months.
ETA: But, I should also say that I haven't discussed it with my doctor and I'm not sure she'd be willing to order it. I would never fudge our dates or anything like that in order to have testing done earlier than the 1 year mark.
One year, at the same time I went through all my testing. No reason to be impatient and do it any sooner unless you are over 35.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
My SIL has been trying for 4 months, was diagnosed with PCOS on her 2nd cycle and her husband had a SA done last week. His PCP ordered it for him so they could have the results ready for their appt at the fertility clinic next month.
Again, you've charted for 1 month so you don't really have much to go off of. If you aren't over 35 or have another diagnosis working aganist you RELAX! It can take a healthy couple a YEAR to get KU!
Inpatience is NOT a fertility issue.

I'm confused. I never responded to your first reply, kdg.
Not that it matters, but this is my 3rd cycle charting, and 8th off BCP. I know it can take a year for a healthy couple. I am also aware that impatience is not a fertility issue. I'm not sure what causes you to think I need to relax. But thank you for your input.

Ahh, your siggy since charting since 8/10.... and off BC since 3/10 hence the numbers I got. If you know all this I'm confused about wanting to "jump the gun"(for lack of a better term) on getting a SA.

My OBGYN said that for a healthy couple ttc, she would run tests after 9 months of trying. Not sure exactly which ones, but pretty sure SA would be included. Good luck!
We got one after we'd been trying for 8 months, and found that DH has low motility, and a "borderline" count. I'm really glad that we didn't wait the full year, because it allowed us to start looking at our options earlier.
DH's PCP referred him for the s/a with no hesitation, and our insurance covered it, though we would have been willing to pay OOP. In my opinion, it's quick, easy, and relatively cheap, so it's worth it to hopefully get some peace of mind. If something is wrong, I feel like it's much better to know sooner rather than later.
After the s/a and a consultaion with a urologist, we had started talking to an RE when we ended up getting a BFP on our own. That pregnancy unfortunately ended in a very early miscarriage. Had we not had the s/a done prior to that, I think we would probably have assumed everything was fine (it did happen naturally, after all) and waited even longer than a year for testing. Because we knew that there was an issue, though, we didn't wait to proceed with the RE.
Cautiously expecting our second little petri dish baby - stick, Baby, stick!
My doctor suggested some preliminary tests (SA for my husband, 7dpo bloodwork for me) after 6 cycles of charting. The 7dpo b/w was suggested since I was having excessive spotting during my LP. The SA we actually chose to wait until after I got my progesterone numbers back. When they came back normal, we waited one more cycle and then we went ahead and filled my doctor's prescription for the SA.
Our OB/GYN said that DH should have one after Christmas if I still haven't gotten KU. She said the "one year to get pregnant" rule is if you were just having sex and weren't charting, etc. December would be our 8th cycle.. DH is very embarassed about the idea and I hope this month is the lucky month for us.

We did on cycle 9 , to see if everything is working . I also did a u/s and CD 3 blood work . We figured that it can't hurt and if we find out sooner and there is a problem the better . I known some couples who waited for 2 years before SA done(ttc with no luck) and were told that if they gotten it done sooner they probably would have conceived sooner , as soon as they found out the the their partners swimmers weren't normal ,got the problem fixed . Both couples conceived soon after . So If you can , why not? it can't hurt .
BFP ! March 2011
TTC since Jan 2010
Blood work CD 3 -normal
Diagnosed with slight case of PCOS Nov 2010
S/A - High count , low morph and mobility
Use acupuncture/herbs to regulate cycles
Re: When to think about SA
It wouldn't even cross my mine until we get close to a year with no luck.
ETA: You've been off BC for 6 months and charting for 1. TOO SOON

Totally OT but we're anniversary twins! Aw, I've never met anyone with the same anniversary!
K, that's all. Back to your regularly scheduled bumping.
I think there is somebody else here too with the same wedding date, too. I can't remember who now, though...
