Houston Babies

new baby eating question

Hi, my little one is 2 1/2 weeks old.  She is eating every 3 hours, and usually has between 3 and 4 ounces at a feeding.  Sometimes she seems hungry still, and I am reluctant to just stick a bottle in her mouth.  How much are your babies eating and their ages?  I don't want to over feed her, but I want to make sure she is satisfied.  She weighs 8 pounds 8 ounces now, and the doc says she is doing great.  Should I feed on demand?  What do you guys think???

Re: new baby eating question

  • It sounds like she is getting enough.  What makes you feel like she is still hungry?  Does she cry after she finishes her bottle?  Try burping her - she might have an air bubble that is making her feel uncomfortable.  Good luck - in the end, my advice is always "do whatever works!"  :-)
  • I'm breastfeeding so I'm not sure how much she was eating then, but when we gave a bottle it was about that much.

I've found that even now if she's acting hungry/crying after she's eaten she usually just needs to burp. She interprets any pain in her belly as hunger, but doesn't really want to eat.

Some babies just like to suck on things, too. I know also around that age, she liked to just stay latched on and comfort nurse. She still does sometimes.
